1 Amazing Day In Gdansk:

1 Amazing Day in Gdansk

If you are thinking of visiting Gdansk in 1 amazing day, I am here to tell you exactly how to do just that! In this post, I let you in on all of the best things to see and do with just 1 day in Gdansk. And at the end, I have even included a couple of beautiful daytrips from the city, which I highly recommend if you get the chance! I hope you enjoy.

I recently visited Gdansk on a short solo trip from my home country. And I was SO pleasently surprised with my experience in the city. Gdansk has such a cosy, charming and picturesque city center and I absolutely loved venturing out into its parks and less touristy outdoor areas too. Not to mention it is one of the cheapest places I have ever visited in Europe! If you have a day or two to explore somewhere new, Gdansk has my highest recommendations.

Is 1 Day In Gdansk Enough?

I would argue that spending 2 nights and 1 full day in Gdansk is the perfect amount, if you don’t have any specific activities or museums in mind, that you would definitely like to hit. Gdansk is a city that is easily walkable and compact, which means you can do a lot in a small amount of time. With one full day in the city, you will be able to see the entire center of the city and even enjoy an activity or a museum in the afternoon. Read along for more details!

How To Spend 1 Amazing Day In Gdansk

Explore The Pictureque Old Town Of Gdansk

The Old Town is by far the most picturesque and interesting part of the city for first time visitors. So of course, this is where you should center most of your time with 1 day in Gdansk! Be sure to stop by Mariacka Street, the Main Town Hall, Neptunes Fountain, The Green Gate and Zlota Brama whilst exploring. And if you want a fun and different experience, why not join a Golf Cart Tour of Gdansk or a historical tour on electrical scooters?

Experience One Of The Best Viewpoints In Gdansk

What if I told you that one of the best viewpoints in Gdansk is actually found right in the middle of the Old Town? Head towards the Basilica of St. Mary to climb the 400 steps up its stunning tower. I am not going to lie: the way to the top is steep, at times narrow and at other times just like you would imagine the inside of a cold, dark and spiderweb-covered tower… But the views you’ll find at the top will be completely worth it!

Stroll Along The Stream Through Parks And Sights

Besides the Old Town, one of the most charming parts of Gdansk to visit during your 1 day in the city is along the stream. Stroll along the stream and find the most quaint and peaceful parks, beautiful buildings and mills along the way. Although Gdansk can get touristy, my impression is that only half of the people actually venture out from the Old Town, which means you can enjoy this area of the city in a completely different way!

Head To Gradowa Hill For A Breath Of Fresh Air And Stunning Views Of Gdansk

If your legs aren’t tired after the first viewpoint of the day, head towards the hills and medieval fortress at Gradowa. Here you will find stunning views of the city and plenty of room to roam around in your own little world. And if you are interested, you can even get an audio tour of the place as you walk around! I visited when the hills were covered in snow, but I can only imagine it even more beautiful in the summer.

Enjoy Lunch At Montownia Food Hall

Visiting Montownia Food Hall is among the best decisions I took on my 1 day in Gdansk. Although this place is a little out from the Old Town, you can easily reach it within 20 minutes from the hills. Or – alternatively – take a quick busride to get there! Inside, you will find a vast array of food options, a chilled atmosphere and plenty of spaces to rest your legs and enjoy some delicious international cuisines.

Spend The Afternoon At One Of The Amazing Museums In The City

Once you have reached the afternoon, it is time to endulge in some history at one of the amazing museums in the city. I visited the European Solidarity Center on my last visit, which was such an interesting glimpse into some of Polands very recent history! As a part of your ticket, you will get an audio guide, which will guide you through the many interesting intellations and historical exhibitions. I have also heard wonderful things about the Museum of The Second World War, but unfortunately it was closed during my visit. So please go for me and let me know how it is!

Enjoy The Waterfront Of Gdansk At Day And Night

Don’t end your time in Gdansk without visiting the stunning waterfront connected to the Old Town. This part of the city is such a peaceful area to stroll around and is filled with cafés and restaurants with beautiful views of the water. And if you are looking for some fun, you can even take a ride in the Gdansk Ferries Wheel, which is also one of the best views of the city!

If You Have More Than 1 Day In Gdansk

Join A Guided Cultural Experience In Gdansk

If you have more than 1 day in Gdansk, I highly recommend joining a guided cultural experience of your choice. This is one of the best ways to gain a more rich experience of the city, and just a fun way to pass your time! For example, you can join this 4 hour Polish food tour, which takes around the city to try 18 different tastings of delicious Polish cuisine. Or, if you are interested in trying some real Polish vodka, why not join this combined food and vodka tour?

A Daytrip To Malbork Castle

If you feel like venturing out of the city, head towards the beautiful Malbork Castle in Poland. It is famously known as the worlds largest castle and a highly rated daytrip from Gdansk. If you are interested in finding out more, check out this tour, which will take you there and back directly from your hotel!

A Daytrip To The Seaside In Sopot

Another great daytrip from Gdansk is to Sopot, a charming town by the Baltic Sea. If you are visiting during the summer, you will be able to enjoy its beaches and beautiful harbor front in the stunning sunshine. And if you are interested, you can even book a cruise to explore the area from the seaside! Sopot is just a 15 minute train ride from Gdansk, and a great option, if you are craving a change of scenarie.

If you have more than 1 day in Gdansk...

I hope this post has helped you figure out how to spend 1 amazing day in Gdansk (and possibly even several days if you so fancy). I hope you’ll enjoy!
