10 Best Episodes Of From (So Far), Ranked

Every season of From has great episodes, but only a select group can be considered the best. The critically acclaimed horror show takes place in the seemingly inescapable Town, where every night, vicious monsters emerge and terrorize the residents. With a 96% Tomatometer score and 87% Popcornmeter score, season 1 proved to be a hit among critics and general audiences. The next season became an even bigger hit, especially after From season 2's ending forever changed the show with a shocking twist.

From's cast of characters are pushed further to their breaking point in season 3 as the Town and its monsters find new and increasingly sadistic ways to torment them. Many answers are provided in the From season 3 finale while also raising new questions that set up the highly anticipated season 4. Based on the 30 installments that have been released so far, From's best episodes are those that are memorable and that meaningfully advance the show's plot and character development.

10 “The Kindness of Strangers”

Season 2, Episode 2

A worst-case scenario unfolds in From season 2, episode 2, "The Kindness of Strangers" when the Town is suddenly occupied by an influx of newcomers from the bus that just arrived. Those who do not get to the safety of a Talisman-protected residence before nightfall are brutally hunted down and killed by From's monsters. The situation is made even worse by several characters being trapped under the collapsed ruins of the Matthews house.

These events lead to some of the show's goriest and most memorable kills, and it is more than the newcomers who are affected. Between Tom the bartender (Reid Price) being killed and Fatima Hassan (Pegah Ghafoori) breaking down as she watches the monsters, even the residents who know what to expect do not walk away unscathed. "The Kindness of Strangers" does not contain the same caliber of plot twists or revelations of other episodes, but it is still among the show's best so far.

9 “Pas de Deux”

Season 2, Episode 6

After a few episodes of dealing with the fallout from episode 2, "Pas de Deux" creates another nightmare scenario the characters have to deal with at night. Sheriff Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) is haunted by visions of a ballerina, but he has other problems to deal with when his son, Ellis Stevens (Corteon Moore), is stabbed at Colony House and has to be moved to the medical clinic before he dies. Getting Ellis to the clinic while the monsters are out makes for a suspenseful story.

However, what truly solidifies "Pas de Deux" among the best From episodes is the ending, which sees Boyd infect the monster known as Smiley (Jamie McGuire) with his blood. Boyd's line "My blood is your blood now, motherf***er" is among the show's most memorable, especially with it being followed by Smiley shriveling up and dying. Seeing one of the monsters killed for the first time is a game-changing moment, although the impact of the overall episode is somewhat diminished now that the monsters are known to be immortal, and it is only a matter of time until Smiley returns.

8 “There And Back Again”

Season 3, Episode 4

From season 3, episode 4 is an episode that begins on a tense note, and the tension only escalates as the episode progresses. Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) realizes she is back in the Town, but the EMTS and the police officer, Acosta (Samantha Brown) that she is with, refuse to listen to her about the dangers they are facing until it is too late. It is terrifying to see how the monsters manipulate and kill the EMTS and nearly every major character gets caught up in the chaos that ensues.

Boyd once again faces an impossible choice when he must decide whose lives he can save and who he has to leave behind. Many of From's best characters feel like they are in genuine danger, including Boyd and Tabitha. The final shot of the bloodied Randall Kirkland (A.J. Simmons) on top of the ambulance is among the most haunting in the show. It is a heart-racing episode, and only ranks lower because it does not match up to some even stronger episodes in season 3.

7 “Long Day’s Journey Into Night”

Season 1, Episode 1

"Long Day's Journey Into Night" successfully sets the tone for the show. The opening sequence of Boyd walking through the Town, ringing a bell, and urging everyone to get inside creates the ominous feeling that hangs over the entire series, even though the audience does not know the specifics yet. Clarity comes in truly horrifying fashion as a little girl makes the mistake of opening a window and letting one of the monsters, disguised as a grandmother, into her home.

"Long Day's Journey Into Night" does not have the satisfying payoff that comes in some of the other episodes, but it is an excellent way to start the series.

After a gripping opening, the episode continues to excel in its ability to gradually introduce the primary setting and the many characters, from the Town's newcomers to the longtime residents. One of the residents, Sara Myers (Avery Konrad), killing Tobey McCray (Colby Conrad) is also intriguing and cements that the monsters aren't the Town's only danger. "Long Day's Journey Into Night" does not have the satisfying payoff that comes in some of the other episodes, but it is an excellent way to start the series.

6 “Oh, The Places We’ll Go”

Season 1, Episode 10

The ongoing storylines of Boyd and Sara journeying into the woods to find a way home, Tabitha digging a hole in the basement, and Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) building a radio all culminate in shocking ways during the season 1 finale. The lighthouse that Boyd and Sara see raises significant questions about the true nature of the Town and whether escape is possible. Jim does get a response from the radio, but it's a threatening voice telling him that Tabitha should not be digging a hole.

"Oh, The Places We'll Go" does provide answers about what Boyd, Sara, Tabitha, and Jim will find if they keep exploring their various avenues. At the same time, the answers prove that there is still a great deal that the characters do not understand, and that they are meddling with powerful forces beyond their control. The episode does an effective job of wrapping up season 1 and setting up season 2, even though its lack of concrete answers may prove frustrating.

5 “Shatter”

Season 3, Episode 1

From season 3 does not waste any time after the game-changing twist with Tabitha at the end of season 2. The season 3 premiere spends ample time showing Tabitha exploring the outside world and looking for answers. She makes a surprising and fascinating connection with the childhood of Victor Kavanaugh (Scott McCord). Tabitha being in the town where Victor grew up and finding his father, Henry Kavanaugh, (Robert Joy) is compelling, but it is only one of the best parts of the episode.

When Victor was a boy, he was trapped in the Town with his mother and sister.

After destroying the music box in the season 2 finale and declaring that the Town could not break him, Boyd and all the residents are forced to suffer as the crops go bad, the animals are let loose at night, and Tian-Chen Liu (Elizabeth Moy) is murdered. Tian-Chen's death is among the show's most brutal and confirms how any time Boyd or the characters have a victory, the Town will always find a way to strike back at them. While not on the level of the season 2 or 3 finales, it is From's best premiere episode yet.

4 “All Good Things…”

Season 1, Episode 7

While the first episode shows the consequences of a monster being let into one of the Town's houses, "All Good Things..." shows the consequences of what happens when a monster is allowed inside of Colony House. So many people living inside Colony House helps create a feeling of community, but it turns into an unforgettable nightmare as the Colony House residents are massacred, and this places many beloved characters in peril.

Victor, a character who has been largely mysterious up to this point, gets time to show his true colors as he takes steps to ensure that he and Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) can escape the massacre. The dire circumstances test the limits of the Talismans as well, with Ellis and Fatima using a Talisman in a new way to protect themselves. "All Good Things..." does not have major revelations and some of the best characters do not receive as much focus, but it is still a chilling and effective episode.

3 “Once Upon a Time…”

Season 2, Episode 10

"Once Upon a Time..." features one of From's most important moments yet when Tabitha is pushed out of the lighthouse and wakes up in a hospital in the outside world. It is shocking to see a resident escape the Town for the first time and Tabitha's circumstances open countless storytelling possibilities moving forward. While the final scene is the standout moment, plenty of other scenes solidify this episode as being among the best.

It is rewarding to see Boyd smash the music box, thereby saving the lives of Julie, Randall, and Marielle (Kaelen Ohm), and proving that he will not let the Town get the best of him and the other residents. It is also satisfying to see Jade Herrera (David Alpay) finding his mysterious symbol in the caves after the other discoveries he made earlier in the season. "Once Upon A Time..." does not provide all the answers, but it takes major steps forward and upends the status quo.

2 “Thresholds”

Season 3, Episode 8

From season 3, episode 8 offers some of the most substantial answers yet, and even introduces time travel while doing so. Victor recalling what really happened in his memory of Christopher (Thom Payne) sheds more light on the Boy in White (Vox Smith), the Anghkooey children, and the origins of the symbol that Jade has been seeing since season 1. Who threw the rope to Boyd in the season 2 premiere is answered as time travel officially becomes part of the show.

Despite not being a season finale, "Thresholds" has some of From's best payoff yet and all of it is delivered in a way that feels earned. Just as Tabitha being in the outside world opened up the show's scope and potential, the introduction of time travel, and establishing how it works, does the same. Disturbing answers also come with Fatima's story and the final shot of Elgin Williams (Nathan D. Simmons) dragging her down the stairs of the root cellar is genuinely chilling.

1 “Revelations: Chapter Two”

Season 3, Episode 10

From's best episode is the season 3 finale, which answers more questions than any episode yet, and does so in a way that no one could have imagined. 8 major From mysteries are solved, ranging from the meaning of the bottle tree numbers to what has really been growing inside of Fatima all this time. The episode is not afraid to get weird and take creative risks, which is refreshing compared to other shows that sometimes play it too safely.

"Revelations: Chapter Two" sets a new standard for what a season finale can achieve in terms of concluding a season while also paving the way for an incredibly exciting future.

"Revelations: Chapter Two" sets a new standard for what a season finale can achieve in terms of concluding a season while also paving the way for an incredibly exciting future. It will be difficult for future episodes to top this one, but it is certainly possible given that each season of From seems to be even better than the one that preceded it. The list of all-time best episodes will continue to grow in From season 4 and in any other future seasons as well.
