6 Below Deck Sailing Yacht Alums Who Had Issues With Gary King That Should Return For Season 6 (His Lawsuit Will Likely Get Him Fired)
Below Deck Sailing Yachtseems like it may be returning, and even if Gary King's sexual misconduct allegations and lawsuit prevent him from coming back to the show, there are alumni who he had beef with over the years who could make a comeback with the First Mate gone. Gary, who's been a fixture on the show since Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, has displayed difficult behavior in recent years. After Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 saw him jealous of Colin MacRae and Daisy Kelliher's romance, Gary returned to Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 with a secret.
While Gary's relationship with Daisy took a dramatic nosedive during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, the news that broke during filming was more troubling than his treatment of his former friend and colleague. During Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5's filming, a member of Below Deck's production staff alleged that Gary had engaged in sexually aggressive behavior toward her during a promotional filming day. While Gary has vehemently denied the allegations, things got worse after he was edited out of the majority of the season when the former production staff member sued Gary and Below Deck's behind-the-scenes production team.
As Gary has coped with the lawsuit, continuing to deny the allegations and stay quiet about them online, it's clear that he's struggling with his personal life and professional life all at once. Many Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans felt certain Gary wouldn't be returning to the show after this season anyway, but seeing things moving forward, it's clear that Gary's going to have some more serious issues to contend with outside the show. With Gary unlikely to return to the show, his absence from Below Deck Sailing Yacht opens things up for alumni who struggled with him to return.
Although Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 6 may be more focused on new yachties coming to Captain Glenn Shephard's crew, it's possible that Gary leaving the show could bring some familiar faces back to the series. Having interacted with many of the yachties since he began on the show, Gary's had some friends, some enemies, and some who started as one and ended another. With things so difficult surrounding Gary, it's possible the show could function a bit more easily without him. There are plenty of Below Deck Sailing Yacht alumni who I'd like to see return without Gary around.
With Gary leaving Below Deck Sailing Yacht behind, Colin could finally be ready to make his return to the exciting series.
6 Sydney Zaruba
Season 2
Working aboard Parsifal III during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, Sydney Zaruba had a difficult time with Gary throughout her season of the series. Sydney joined Below Deck Sailing Yacht as a deckhand, and though she didn't have much yachting experience, she'd been part of her family's sailing business throughout her life and knew the ropes - literally. Sydney worked well with the exterior team, getting along with Gary and the rest of her fellow deckhands, but things took a turn during the season when her relationship with Gary became more than platonic, even though Gary wasn't exactly unattached.
During her time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, Sydney was part of a love triangle between her, Gary, and Alli Dore. While Gary and Sydney were hooking up before he began flirting with Alli, he tried to make it clear that he wanted to keep things platonic and professional. Unfortunately, he'd come on too strong with Sydney before and she began to develop a genuine interest in him, which made it tough for her to let go. Getting jealous over the connection he was developing with Alli impacted Sydney's overall performance. Sydney deserves a Gary-free chance to return.
5 Ashley Marti
Season 3
Although Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 exposed Gary's philandering ways, when he returned for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3, there was still surprise surrounding his behavior. Ashley Marti, who joined Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 as a third stew and worked her way up the ranks through the season, had a tough time finding her footing early on in the charter season. Ashley liked Gary, but wasn't able to find ways to connect with him as the season progressed, and it became clear that he didn't return her attraction, at least not at the same intensity.

Despite rebuffing her advances, Gary was still openly flirty with Ashley, which made her feel like she was moving the needle. Despite Gary being upfront with others about his lack of interest, Ashley didn't seem to grasp that he wasn't attracted to her in the way she was to him. Eventually, the pair drunkenly hooked up, which raised some serious consent issues with Below Deck fans on behalf of Gary, who consented to their hookup. Ashley's story revolved around Gary despite her advancing in her career as a stew, leaving many hoping she'd return to the show for another season.
4 Alex Propson
Season 4
Alex Propson, who appeared on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, had his set of struggles with Gary throughout the season that left him uninterested in returning to the series for another charter season with Parsifal III. A talented deckhand, Alex didn't have a ton of experience before his time on Below Deck, but he was ready and willing to learn more about the job. As a member of the exterior team, Alex did a great job taking direction and learning as he worked. After working on motor yachts, Alex wasn't accustomed to sailing yachts, but became a quick study.
Gary's issues with Alex were more about who he was attracted to than the way he was functioning as a member of the yacht crew. Alex and Mads Herrera were flirty throughout the season, and though Alex was a self-proclaimed flirt, he wasn't going to step on anyone's toes when it came to the women of Parsifal III. Gary, who was often known to assert dominance when he was attracted to someone, tried to make it clear he was interested in Mads, despite his interest waning throughout the season. Alex would be a great fit for the crew without Gary.
3 Mads Herrera
Season 4
Although Mads' time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 was exciting, it was dramatic from start to finish in a way that impacted how viewers saw her. Throughout her time on Parsifal III as a Junior Stew, Mads did her best to work hard and ensure that she was making the most of her experiences on the sailing yacht. Working with the interior team and doing a decent job with Chief Stew Daisy, Mads seemed like she could become a permanent fixture on the series, but her relationship with Gary turned a lot of Below Deck fans off quickly.
Mads and Gary's flirtation lasted throughout the season, despite the fact that she and Alex also had a bit of flirtation going on. Mads struggled to know who she genuinely found herself interested in, but it became clear by the end of the season that she was better suited for Alex than she was for Gary. While Mads time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht was focused on her relationships, seeing her return to the show with a focus on her work would be excellent. As a great stew, Mads would be fun to see on Parsifal III again.
2 Chase Lemacks
Season 4-5
As one of the most recent yachties to work with Gary, Chase Lemacks has an interesting history with the First Mate. While Chase, who began appearing on the show during Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, became a fan favorite, he had a very hard time working with Gary during his initial stretch on the show. Chase and Gary didn't see eye-to-eye, and the pair struggled to figure out how to work with one another rather than against each other. Pushing back against Gary's antagonistic behavior, Chase worked hard to assert himself and stay in line with the crew.
When Chase returned to Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 as a replacement on the exterior team, it was clear that he and Gary had some better communication. Though the pair still didn't have the best relationship, they were able to work a bit better together throughout the charter season. Still, it was clear that Chase would prefer not to be working with Gary, who was struggling to manage someone who knew just as much as he did. Chase and Gary's contentious relationship would be a thing of the past if Chase returned to Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 6.
1 Colin MacRae
Season 2-4
As one of the most well-known yachties from Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Colin MacRae's relationship with Gary has been difficult to watch unfold. While the pair got along at first, things began to go south when Colin and Daisy started to realize that their relationship was more than platonic. Colin faced difficulties with Gary when he noticed that Gary was getting jealous of his relationship with Daisy, which led Colin to feel overwhelmed and distrustful of his romance. Despite having worked together for years, Colin and Gary's relationship quickly became contentious and difficult, leaving little room for repair.
As Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 continued, Colin and Daisy's relationship went through the wringer, while Colin and Gary continued to struggle with their own friendship. Eventually, even though Colin and Daisy ultimately broke up, Colin left the series and his friendship with Gary far behind. Colin, who's been a fan favorite for Below Deck Sailing Yacht viewers, has stayed close with Captain Glenn, but would be unlikely to return if Gary was still present. With Gary leaving Below Deck Sailing Yacht behind, Colin could finally be ready to make his return to the exciting series.
