I think Brian Tee's Quinn is Reacher's best villain to date, being an egotistical, sadistic and genuinely menacing character.Reacher season 3 adapted Persuader, where the title character goes undercover for the DEA to rescue one of their missing agents - and finish his unfinished business with Quinn. Persuader largely kept Quinn as a shadowy figure who didn't really come into the story until the final chapters.

Reacher's season 3 finale certainly delivers on the action front, being pretty much non-stop from the opening shootout. The long-teased Paulie vs Reacher fight is just as explosive as advertised, but the most satisfying sequence is when Alan Ritchson's avenging drifter finally delivers the kill shot on Quinn. It's been many years coming, and after all the suffering Quinn caused, his end was long overdue. While the third season was largely true to Persuader, the show still made some changes to the source material.

"Unfinished Business" generally ups the action quota from Child's novel, though both still feature the main character rampaging through the Beck compound with a Mossberg Persuader shotgun. The latter isn't Quinn's instrument of destruction in the novel, however. Persuader instead sees Reacher tracking Quinn down to Beck's den after the former was believed to have died from drowning. Reacher makes his way back to the mansion, finds Quinn, and pins him down before proceeding to stab him in the brain with a chisel.

It's a blunter, more personal demise, where Quinn's brief pleading for mercy goes unanswered. This killing had symbolic meaning for Reacher too, as Quinn had stabbed Reacher's protégé Kohl in the brain after he tortured her years before. The book's finale is still action-packed, but the show cranked up the dial a few degrees to deliver multiple fights and shootouts. This includes giving a role to Neagley (Maria Sten), who is completely absent from Persuader.

The fourth episode of Reacher season 3, "Dominique," revealed what happened to Kohl (Mariah Robinson) and how Quinn survived Jack's previous assassination attempt. Reacher shot Quinn in the head by the side of a cliff after discovering Kohl's mutilated body, but the weapon's small caliber combined with the coldness of the water saw Quinn miraculously survive. The event also gave him amnesia, meaning he has no memory of having met Reacher in the past.

Reacher's "Unfinished Business" concludes with Quinn being surrounded by Jack and his allies, who leave the gunrunner's fate in his hands. Armed with one of Quinn's own shotguns, Reacher aims the weapon as Quinn just has time to recall Jack's previous attempt to kill him before the trigger is pulled. While Persuader's Quinn fate was also effective, season 3's version is more satisfying for several reasons.

Quinn's Death Makes Logical Sense After Reacher Failed The First Time

To paraphrase General Garber, do it right the first time

"Dominique" also introduced Reacher's mentor, General Garber (Andreas Apergis), from the books. Garber appears in flashbacks, and as Reacher prepares to kill Quinn, the General offers the sage advice of "Do it once, do it right." In hindsight, shooting Quinn point-blank in the head and dropping him from a cliff should have been enough, but the former intelligence officer got very lucky. When Reacher gets his second chance at killing Quinn, he takes no chances and shoots him point blank in the head with a shotgun.

The character of Garber also appeared in the Jack Reacher novels Die Trying, The Affair and The Enemy.

Whether via chisel or a Persuader 12-gauge, Reacher made sure that when Quinn went down, he stayed down for good. Quinn's demise wasn't as specular as Paulie's or even season 2's Langston (Robert Patrick), who got thrown off the back of a helicopter. Still, it was an emotionally cathartic end to the character, who seemingly felt his sole purpose in life was to inflict as much misery as possible. Hopefully, the upcoming Reacher season 4 (or even the Neagley spinoff) will feature a villain that matches or surpasses Quinn.
