After The White Lotus Season 3 Finale, I'm Relieved These 5 Theories Were Debunked

Warning: this article contains spoilers for The White Lotus season 3.

The White Lotus season 3 ended on a strong note between big reveals and multiple deaths, but there are a few popular theories that did finally get debunked. Mike White's HBO series brought its vacationers to Thailand this season with The White Lotus's season 3 cast featuring a few familiar faces among the new additions. The stories this season were more dramatic and chaotic than ever, ultimately leading up to The White Lotus's season 3 ending, which saw the characters reach their breaking points before beginning the journey home.

With one more episode than season 2 and two more episodes than season 1, this was the longest season of The White Lotus yet, meaning that the series had time to explore even more of the troubling paths that some of the characters were going down. Unsurprisingly, there were numerous audience theories about what was going to happen next to each of the guests. Some, like Greg giving Belinda money or Timothy attempting to make poison smoothies, ended up being correct, but some others were much better left out.

5 Mook Was Involved In The Hotel Robbery

Her Wholesome Story Would Have Been Ruined

Following the robbery of the White Lotus hotel, one theory speculated that Mook was involved in the gift shop robbery that occurred in episode 2. The theory stated that she was the mastermind behind the robbery and that she was using Gaitok's affections for her to keep him distracted. She knew how sweet he was and how easy it would be to move his attention away from his work for the assailants to enter the hotel gates.

Mook and Gaitok's relationship was one of the most wholesome aspects of the season...

While the original theory was correct in assuming that Valentin's distraction from Gaitok was purposeful, I'm glad that Mook did not end up being involved. Mook and Gaitok's relationship was one of the most wholesome aspects of the season and if she had secretly been behind the break-in, their ending would have felt completely different.

4 Greg Is The Season's Victim

As Much As He Is A Villain, The Show Would Feel Weird Without Him

It may seem odd given that Greg was such a source of stress for Belinda throughout the season, but I'm actually happy that Greg was not the victim in The White Lotus. Greg was back to his usual sinister ways that he perfected with Tanya during season 2, which was very entertaining, and his interactions with Chloe were often quite strange. Despite how unusual the character is, The White Lotus just wouldn't feel the same without him in the next season.

Every Death In The White Lotus' Season 3 Finale & Killers Explained

We finally know who The White Lotus season 3's major deaths were after the climactic finale. Here's everyone who died and how it happened.

The White Lotus season 3's deaths were tragic, and each of the characters was more likable than Greg, but ending his story there just would not have made sense. He was in no real danger from Belinda, and there was nothing to stop him from moving again if he needed to. Plus, at this point, I am invested in seeing how the show can incorporate him into a different location and context every season.

3 Greg Kills Belinda

She Deserved Her Happy Ending

Just as it is good that Greg did not die at the end of The White Lotus season 3, it is also good that he was not this season's killer. The story of him and Belinda researching each other and feeling threatened was really tense, but it actually ended in the best way possible. Prior to Greg offering Belinda money, some viewers theorized that Greg's plan was to kill Belinda. Likewise, after the initial offer, Belinda and Zion were still worried that he would come after them if they did not accept to take his money and go.

Though audiences know that Greg is definitely capable of murder, or at least hiring other people to carry out a murder, it is so much more satisfying to watch Belinda get away and even gain the upper hand. Belinda was the character that most deserved a happy ending, and it is great that she finally got one after her season 1 ending. She deserved to leave Greg and the past behind in Thailand and ride off into the sunset.

2 Laurie Stops Being Friends With Jaclyn

The Real Ending Was Much More Satisfying

The situation between the three friends on their "victory tour" vacation was looking pretty dicey going into the finale. Laurie confronted Jaclyn about sleeping with Valentin and after Jaclyn snapped back, telling Laurie that her own choices led her to where she was. It seemed possible that Laurie might not remain friends with Jaclyn. Luckily, Laurie's big monologue in the season finale debunked that theory, and the group remained friends as they left Thailand.

Carrie Coon made Laurie's monologue one of the strongest scenes of the entire season thanks to the level of honesty that she was able to give the character.

There were some clear communication issues and problems buried between the three women, but Laurie's speech about how happy she was to be at the same table as Jaclyn and Kate opened the door for the group to be more honest with each other. Carrie Coon made Laurie's monologue one of the strongest scenes of the entire season thanks to the level of honesty that she was able to give the character. The scene felt really genuine and heartwarming, and I'm so happy that happened rather than Laurie giving up on her friends.

1 A Monkey Was The White Lotus Season 3's Killer

That Ending Would Have Been Very Frustrating

Out of all the theories about The White Lotus season 3, I am happiest that this one was debunked. Early in the season, several characters commented on the monkeys in the trees surrounding the hotel, prompting viewers to question whether the monkeys could be involved in the shooting somehow. While this was a funny idea to speculate on, it would have been ridiculous to actually put it onscreen.

Following the The White Lotus season 3 finale, series creator Mike White and multiple season 3 cast members are revealing a slate of deleted scenes.

If monkeys were the killers in The White Lotus season 3, it would perhaps have been funny for a few minutes, but then it would have very quickly become a disappointing ending. The monkeys did appear throughout the season and had some symbolic importance, but it would have taken away from all the real storylines if a monkey was busy firing a gun in the background, regardless of how silly The White Lotus can be sometimes.
