New Juventus midfielder Carlos Alcaraz opened up about his emotions after joining the club, his role on the pitch and how negotiations with Southampton progressed.

The 21-year-old Argentinian forward signed for the Bianconeri from Southampton on Wednesday on a six-month loan deal worth €3.7m with €1.9m in add-ons attached, with a €49.5m buy option also included.

Alcaraz adds another option to Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus squad for the second half of this season, something that could prove crucial as the team fight rivals Juventus for the Scudetto. The two sides will battle it out in the Derby d’Italia on February 4 at 19.45 UK time.

Speaking to Juventus’ media department, Alcaraz first discussed how he experienced the negotiations between Juventus and Southampton.

“It was all very quick, but also very nice. My agent told me about the interest, and I tried to stay calm. My girlfriend gave me great support, it was all very nice.

“I knew I had to stay calm because things might not go well, but now I’m here and I’m very happy to be at this great club. The first days here were very good.”

He touched on how it feels to be a Bianconeri player.

“It was impressive, it’s a dream. I know that I will have to work hard to achieve my goals both with Juventus and on an individual level. It was crazy because I was playing with Juventus on the PlayStation and now, I’m here.”

The 21-year-old forward touched on the Argentinian history at Juventus.

“It’s an honour, arriving here is a great feeling. I must say that I saw many matches when Di Maria, Paredes, Dybala were here, it was very nice.”

Alcaraz commented on his best roles on the pitch.

“I have always played in midfield both on the right and left, it’s the role in which I feel best. I arrive here with a lot of determination, desire to win, to play. I’m a very competitive guy, I don’t like losing. This is why I will give my best as long as I wear this shirt.”

He spoke about his inspirations on the pitch.

“As a child I always liked Cristiano Ronaldo a lot, he was an inspiration for me and for everyone. When I played for Racing, I really liked one of my teammates, Zaracho. He was a great example, but CR7 was the greatest inspiration.”

Finally, Alcaraz sent a message to the Juventus fans.

“I’m very happy to be here, I thank the fans for the many messages on Instagram. I’m very happy and I want them to know that when I can defend this shirt, I will do it to the fullest.”
