All Baldur's Gate 3 Companions Ranked By Their Best Quotes

Baldur's Gate 3 is a game that not only has many choices and fights, but it also has tons of dialogue that shows the personality and feelings of the multiple characters you stumble across within the world. While there are multiple characters the player will actively speak to, none have as iconic of quotes as the companions that venture through the world with the player.

Not only do some of the most memorable quotes within the game come from your companions, but each companion has thousands of lines that make up their unique personality. Every one of the companions is beloved for various reasons. It's just that some have more enticing personalities than others. That being said, each party member also has a unique dialogue depending on your choices in their story, such as leading companions on an evil path.

10 Halsin Is But A Simple Arch Druid

The Protector Of The Grove

Halsin is a fairly simple character in general, though he plays a major role in the story of Baldur's Gate 3. That being said, he's a character who has some fairly good quotes despite his simple personality and lack of voice lines, especially during the game's cutscenes.

  • I would urge some caution. This honeypot is full of bees!
  • Nature outdid itself with you.
  • Grace is bestowed by nature, not by me.

As one of BG3's romanaceable companions, Halsin has quite romantic lines, some of the best in the game, but his general lines do falter compared to the rest of the companions. He does have quite a few great aggressive lines, however, which is where he seems to shine outside his romance voice lines.

9 Wyll Is Upright & Brave In His Banter

The Blade Of Frontiers

Wyll is a character that's known for his sense of justice and being a classical folk hero personality within the world of Baldur's Gate 3. His voice lines within the game pair with that narrative quite well, as he remains just and dignified in his dialogue, which sometimes makes for great jokes from Wyll.

  • Provoke the blade… and suffer its sting!
  • Gale slurped that thing up like a horse with a carrot.
  • Astarion, how’s the rat diet going?

While Wyll attempts to remain polite in his dialogue, he can be quite snarky at times, which adds to the humor of his dialogue. His charm lies in the mix of justice and being a rebel, which is the perfect combination for the heroic warlock. Wyll also has some fairly great romantic voice lines, though they do feel weaker compared to other companions at times.

8 Minthara's Evil Overpowers Her Lines

True Soul Of The Absolute

Minthara from the get-go is a pretty villainous character, and when she's recruited as a companion, this doesn't change much. A lot of her dialogue is rather brutal and sometimes lacks empathy, but she does have some pretty deep voice lines which hit quite hard.

  • Loving another is not soft, wizard. It is one of the hardest things a person can do.
  • You have the aura of a third child.
  • Give the word and I will kill the clown. We will be praised as heroes.”
  • You came. I prayed that you would, but there are no gods left to me.”

While Minthara is a villainous character, it's clear that her feelings run very deep, especially when romancing her. But even then, her dialogue is fairly amazing, especially for a character who generally gets a low number of companion lines due to being added to the group so late. Players will have a ton of fun listening to her interactions with fellow companions as well, because she never backs down.

7 Shadowheart's Devotion To Shar Enhances Her Sarcasm

The Chosen Of Shar

Shadowheart is a brilliant character who you slowly learn about as the story progresses due to her being closed in at the beginning of the story. However, that doesn't stop her from showing her sarcastic side towards the player, or even the rest of the party. She remains headstrong and resolute in her faith, which she definitely makes known once the player knows she's a Sharran follower.

  • Gods, I hate clowns. I'm not even sure clowns like clowns.”
  • You'll have to do a lot more leg work for me to do any hip work.”
  • Excellent. If we ever become friends, I’ll know what to call you.
  • You certainly know how to make a party interesting. At least you saved them from the headache tomorrow.

Shadowheart is a character that starts out sarcastic, but as she opens up, she reveals her amazing personality quirks to the player, though she still keeps some of that lovable sarcasm. She also pairs incredibly well with Halsin, as they have this friendly, almost romantic tension that highlights both characters quite well.

6 Minsc's Lines Are Always Funny

The Mad Rashemaar

Minsc is a great character that we unfortunately meet incredibly late in Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3. He's a simple and heroic guy, who can be very unintentionally funny due to being quite absent-minded. Luckily for the player, that means he has fairly remarkable quotes they can use in his limited time within the party.

  • Justice walks on four feet, and sleeps in my boot!
  • Can we fight now? Boo is not used to this taking of turns.
  • No, it's a hamster.
  • You are no turnip. Let that be of comfort in your final moments.

While Minsc is a fairly humorous character and makes absurd comments at times, he also has very profound moments. One of these great moments is shown after Shadowheart's personal quests, and he resonates with her. It's best to take advantage of Minsc's presence, especially due to him being the last companion the player can receive. He also has great banter with his closest ally, Jaheira.

5 Astarion Is Lovably Snarky

The Pale Elf

Astarion takes Shadowhearts' sarcasm and ramps it up to 1,000%, and players love him for the snark he constantly gives. He's also very supportive of evil decisions as early as Act 1 compared to pretty much every other companion, making him quite a joy to have in those types of runs.

  • It's not you, it's me–I have standards.
  • No! My sweet bloodthirsty friend!
  • Mm…hmmm… Thank you for saving me. It was very kind.
  • Well, apparently there's a limit. Somewhere between a nice summer's day and the FULL, CONCENTRATED POWER OF THE SUN!

Astarion, while being his cheeky self, does also have some of the saddest moments in Baldur's Gate 3. This comes to fruition as you progress his personal story and discover his darker secrets, which come to the forefront if the player romances him. His emotions run very deep, which is why a lot of players prefer to keep him as a spawn, because ascended Astarion isn't very personable with his newfound power.

4 Jaheira Has A Lot To Say In Act 3

The Leader Of The Harpers

Jaheira has a ton to say about the city as a returning character from earlier Baldur's Gate games. Despite being a companion, the player can only achieve near the end of Act 2, she possibly has some of the most casual banter in Act 3, which makes her a lively party member to have when exploring the eponymous city.

  • For all the gifts Bhaal's children inherit, a peaceful night's sleep is not among them.
  • You twine your life around the people you love. And when they are gone, you grow around their absence instead.
  • Eh, when you get to my age, you've already done everything — be my guest.”
  • You offer your wisdom where it is not wanted… which is all the more galling that you are right.”

Jaheira is very wise with her words and, while she can be sarcastic at times, she remains quite vigilant. You can definitely tell she's an older character by her voice lines and banter, but while she's old, she doesn't feel out of place. She has great interactions, especially with the Dark Urge characters, as she naturally wants to protect the city, but sees the potential good within the Durge.

3 Lae'zel Is An Icon When It Comes To Quotes

The Githyanki Warrior

Lae'zel has many great voice lines purely just by being herself, resolute, dedicated, and incredibly aggressive. She can get to the point where she even seems quite mean, but as you travel with her, it just shows her a more realistic view of the situation, despite how her initial view was skewed by Vlaakith.

  • I haven’t sinned against Vlaakith. She has sinned against me.
  • Dance with me, bleed with me, bruise me so that you might possess me.
  • I wanted to take the open valley. You chose the brambled path. I am annoyed by it and I admire you for it.
  • Why would I bury a weapon? Is it broken?

Lae'zel is one of the few companions that has a story that spans from Act 1 to Act 3, which means you get to watch her constantly develop. While she does always remain resolute for a cause, the player can greatly change what because she pledges her allegiance to, even if it's simply for herself.

2 Karlach Is Loved By Everyone

The Fury of Avernus

Karlach is a lovable character in every way, being quite positive and cheery at almost every point. While she does have a dark past and can lose her temper, her positivity radiates consistently, especially in her dialogue. She doesn't allow the hate she faces to stop her personality from shining, and this continues throughout most of the game, even in dire situations.

  • This one is for someone tiny-tiny, not biggie-biggie.
  • This grass could be my mum's hair. The air in my lungs might be my dad telling me 'taters'. I like that.”
  • Will you stay with me... I think I can do anything if you're there. Even die.”
  • Aww, was that Gale’s grandpa!!

Karlach is adorable at almost every point in the story, and Karlach's BG3 romance takes that to the next level with how much she adores the player character. She truly loves Tav and is willing to do anything for them, and that's reflected very well in her dialogue with the player during those scenes.

1 Gale Has Something Great To Say In Almost Every Situation

The Wizard Of Waterdeep

Gale, as the true neutral, usually has positive or negative takes about almost every situation within the game, and that makes him a very dynamic companion to have. He gets along with everyone, which makes for great party banter as well as character synergy due to the fact he has a good number of lines with most companions. He can fit into almost every party composition.

  • You licked a dead spider. Dead spider. You licked it. That is something that happened. I think we need to get you some air, and perhaps have a long talk about unresolved childhood issues…
  • "Ouch. Perhaps I should have clarified. A helping hand... anyone."
  • "I see the art of eloquence is alive and well. I'm awed, and a little bit scared of you right now."
  • "You don’t happen to be a cleric, by any chance, do you? A doctor? Surgeon? Uncannily adroit with a knitting needle?"

Gale easily has some of the most iconic quotes in Baldur's Gate 3, and he has a ton of them he can do, so players will never get bored with him. His romance is also surprisingly deep, and he says quite lovely words to the player. That being said, Gale never disappoints in terms of dialogue and always provides extra knowledge due to history in extensive research, especially when it comes to magic.
