Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby & Sydney Sweeney’s Survival Thriller Finally Sets US Release Date 7 Months After Its Initial Premiere
Eden has finally set its United States release date. The movie is an upcoming thriller about a group of people in between the World Wars attempting to create new lives and survive on a remote island in the Galapagos. It features a leading cast including Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby, Ana de Armas, Jude Law, Toby Wallace, and Paul Gleeson. The movie was directed by Ron Howard and written by Noah Pink. Its producers include Howard, Stuart Ford, Karen Lunder, and Patrick Newall.
Per Vertical, a U.S. release date has finally been revealed for Eden. The film will release on August 22, 2025. This reveal comes in conjunction with the announcement that Vertical has acquired the movie's domestic distribution rights. In reaction to the announcement, Howard expresses his gratitude. He mentions that the film has been a "passion project" for him for years. He "hope[s] audiences connect with the profound themes of survival and human nature." This announcement comes after Eden initially premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024. It is also currently set for release in Germany (through Leonine) this month. Until this update, the film's struggle to get a distributor was looking like bad news for the movie. Despite his clout in the industry, Howard's previous narrative feature, Thirteen Lives, ended up going straight to streaming on Prime Video. Luckily, Eden has avoided this fate by being offered a chance in theaters.

Howard's Hitmaking Is Inconsistent
Howard is capable of directing a box office darling, as he has with The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons, which had worldwide box office hauls of $767 million and $490 million, respectively. At the same time, it has been at least seven years since Howard produced a hit with Solo: A Star Wars Story, and even that underperformed compared to other Star Wars movies. Given this history, it will be interesting to see how well Eden ends up doing when it hits theaters this August.
