Andor's Cast Just Gave Us 5 More Reasons To Be Excited About Season 2
Andor season 2 premiered last night in the U.K., and the cast have just given us so many more reasons to be excited about the next Star Wars TV show. The first season of Andor won popular and critically acclaim, and it's generally considered the best Star Wars TV show to date. The cast were in London last night for the premiere, and couldn't help expressing their love for showrunner Tony Gilroy's show in so many brief interview clips. Here are some of the most notable moments.
5 Expect Andor Season 2 To Actually Improve Rogue One
Andor is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Diego Luna is particularly excitement to see how the show improves that movie. "You know what's happening, you know what will happen, you know what this man is capable of doing," he noted to Hey U Guys. "But you don't know why. And the why matters." He expanded on this when he spoke to Yahoo News:
"I think it's gonna make people see Rogue One in a different way, you know? It's gonna somehow make Rogue One better, or at least pertinent again when you watch it, because it resignifies Rogue One. You don't know what's behind the sacrifice that you see Cassian doing in Rogue One, now you'll know."
4 Andor Season 2 Is True To Tony Gilroy's Original Vision
Tony Gilroy originally pitched Andor as a five-season show, but that proved impossible. Still, according to Luna, the heart of the story remains unchanged. As he told Yahoo News, "When he pitched the story at the beginning, the same story was shot. We got full freedom, complete freedom, from [Lucasfilm] and from Disney, to execute the show the way Tony dreamed. That integrity, you can see in the show."
3 Andor's Stars Think The Ending Has Actually Elevated The Show
The stars seem conscious of the fact that some are concerned about the reduction to just two seasons. Mon Mothma actress Genieve O'Reilly told Yahoo News it's worked out well, though:
"I think knowing that this is finishing, knowing that it's 12 episodes, knowing that there's an extraordinary cast and these beautiful artists creating all around us, I think it lifted us all. I think we could reach for a work that maybe we wouldn't have if we'd gone again or again, but we knew we meant it, so it felt really special. The collective ambition of everybody was just tantalizing."
2 Expect An Incredible Character Arc For Adria Arjona's Bix
Adria Arjona's character Bix went through a lot in Andor season 1, and this second season will build on that. "My first question to Tony was... how does Bix handle this?" Arjona explained to LRM.
"Is she someone that's gonna find strength in it, is she someone that's gonna shove things under the rug and say, 'I'm okay, I'm okay, I'm okay?' And the reality is that it's a little bit of both, and it's very complex when you go through trauma, and Bix is trying her best. In the course of this season, her journey is to really come into her own, and find security in the relationship that she builds with Cassian, and the relationship that she builds with herself."
But don't go in with prior expectations. "Any expectation that you have, you're probably gonna be wrong," Arjona told Yahoo News. "I was wrong, and I'm in the show."
1 Don't Expect A Redemption Arc For Dedra Meero
ISB agent Dedra Meero is one of the most memorable characters in Andor, and there's been intense speculation about her future. Speaking to Yahoo News, Denise Gough seems to be warning us not to expect a redemption story. "She remains really single-focused, Dedra. She does some pretty reprehensible things," she noted. Amusingly, Gough suddenly second-guessed herself. "I shouldn't even have said that! What a terrible thing to see. She's really nice, she's really nice, she does wonderful things, she redeems herself in the eyes of nearly everyone."
Yeah, right. I somehow don't think Andor season 2 is going to redeem her...
