Avowed: Best Starting Attributes (Which Stats To Get First)

There are six main attributes in Avowedthat can be assigned and respecced at any point: Might, Constitution, Dexterity, Perception, Intellect, and Resolve. Each of these attributes has specified effects that can help you build your Avowed character's abilities to fit your playstyle and preferences. When first starting out, it might not be clear exactly how to allocate your stats during character creation, and the choice will depend on your approach to combat and exploration. If you're unsure, some stats with broad benefits might help in any situation, and you can always reset your points later on for relatively cheap.

Depending on what you choose first, stat allocation can make things much easier or much more challenging based on how you end up approaching combat and exploration. Attributes in Avowed typically complement one or more of the three class options — Ranger, Fighter, and Wizard — while some are useful for multiple classes. Each attribute enhances two specific features. For example, Might increases Damage and Carry Capacity, while Dexterity increases Attack and Action Speed. Here's a look at all the stats in Avowed and what your best options are as you start adventuring into the Living Lands.

All Stats In Avowed & What They're For

Avowed Stats Include Might, Constitution, Dexterity, Perception, Intellect & Resolve

The first and most versatile stat in Avowed is Might. Might can increase your overall Damage from all sources, as well as your Carrying Capacity, which is the amount of weight you can keep in your inventory before becoming encumbered. Constitution increases your Maximum Health and your Resistance to both Bleed and Poison accumulation — two things I've encountered quite often throughout the Living Lands. Dexterity increases Attack and Action Speed, as well as Reload Speed. Attack Speed pertains to your weapons/abilities, while Action Speed refers to how fast you equip weapons and swap loadouts, use consumables, and handle parkour.

How To Reduce Stuttering In Avowed On PC

Obsidian Entertainment's Avowed is a brilliant example of Unreal Engine's potential, but is still filled with easily fixed stuttering issues.

Perception increases Critical Hit Chance and Maximum Range, which improves the efficacy of your ranged weapons, such as arquebuses and bows. If you plan to keep your distance and snipe unsuspecting enemies from afar, you'll need Perception. Intellect increases your Maximum Essence and Elemental Resistance, serving as the primary stat for Wizard builds. Elemental Resistance is resistance to the Shocked, Ignited, and Frozen states.

Elemental Resistance (Intellect) and Poison/Bleed Resistance (Constitution) will be necessary for all builds at some point, especially after leaving Dawnshore, when enemies start to deal these effects more often.

Resolve increases Maximum Stamina and Second Wind efficiency, making it a necessary investment for heavy tank builds or anyone simply struggling to stay up in fights. Second Wind allows you to fight off death when taking lethal damage, and Resolve will improve how this works and how much health it regenerates.

Best Attributes To Get First In Avowed

Might & Constitution Are Safe Bets

When it comes to your initial stat allocation, you'll need to decide if you want to dive deep into one or two specific areas (min/max) or spread things out for a more balanced overall approach. If you know for sure you want to play a straightforward Ranger, for example, you probably want to put more points into Perception and/or Dexterity, with Might and Constitution as secondary choices.

Avowed Review: The Fate Of The Living Lands Is In Your Hands

Avowed is the latest RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, and it’s an incredible showcase of the beloved studio’s writing and world-building.

For a more Fighter-oriented or warrior style of gameplay in Avowed, Might and Resolve will be more useful, with Constitution and Dexterity being important as well. For a Wizard build, Intellect and Perception are going to be primary attributes. These stats also play into conversational opportunities, so roleplaying a smart character can make Intellect worthwhile even with a Fighter build, while Might could be useful for a more forceful approach to conversation.

Avowed will automatically recommend specific attributes when you select your background in character creation, so either re-allocate these points or select a background that jibes with your playstyle.

If you're unsure how you want to play, that's perfectly fine, and you can always take the recommended attributes for your chosen background. Placing a few more points into Might and Constitution is a safe bet because increased Damage and Health are advantageous for any style of play.

If you end up being unhappy with the attributes you've chosen in Avowed, you can always respec for a nominal fee and adjust your attribute placement accordingly. Avowed encourages players to explore and experiment with builds, attributes, and abilities. Just be sure not to invest points in something that won't benefit your playstyle, such as investing in Resolve but playing as a Ranged Wizard.
