Avowed: Should You Return Rossana’s Stolen Food In Elder Offerings?

In Avowed, there is a hidden choice during Rossana's quest that you will only get if you have a certain stat line. You meet Rossana in Fior Mes Iverno, where you can find her praying off to the right of the bounty board in a secluded area. If you talk to her, she will say that all of the problems in the area started because they abandoned the spirits of the dead. However, you can do a number of things after you talk to her that will change how the quest goes.

There are a lot of choices in Avowed, and many of them are completely missable. There are a few that you will face in the main story, some of which make you feel bad either way and some of which seem much better than others. I found myself feeling like there was no good choice at some points, and Rossana's quest felt like shades of gray more than anything else. Rossana is clearly passionate about appeasing the spirits, but there are hungry people who need that food.

What Happens If You Follow Rossana’s Request

You Will Fight Some Spirits & Leave Offerings For Them

If you approach Rossana with a low Perception stat in Avowed, you will not even have the option to confront Rossana in the first place. However, with a Perception score of 5, you can ask Rossana if she stole the food and she will respond. She never gets offended, she merely conveys that she had to do it to appease the angry spirits. However, if you never see that, you will not have the choice to return the stolen food, and it won't matter.

Who Is The Voice In Your Head In Avowed?

Every great hero has something in their head driving them forward, but the Envoy's in Avowed is a bit more mysterious than most. Who are they?

Doing so will take you to three different sites where the dead are waiting. All of them are surrounded by angry spirits, and you will have to defeat enemies as you go. Once you do, you will leave the food offerings on the gravesite. You will then have to return to Fior Mes Iverno and talk to Rossana. You can then pray with her, but as long as you complete the quest, she will give you Berath's Blessed Ward, which is a unique trinket that will protect you against skeletons.

What Happens If You Return The Stolen Food

The Choice That Will Make You Feel Better

Assuming you have the Perception score to get the option to learn about stealing the food, you will also get an additional quest to complete, which is entirely optional. You can head to the Farmer's Market and talk to Ilena. You can then decide whether or not to tell her about the stolen food, if you are going to give her the food back, or if you instead will pay her back for the food. You can also do neither and walk away from the situation entirely.

If you give her the food back, the Elder Offerings quest will immediately end, and you will not get anything but a better conscious in return. If you give her money for the food, which is 100 coins, she will be a little less thankful, but you will leave with a slightly lighter heart, and you can still finish giving the offerings to the spirits and collect the trinket.

You Should Follow Rossana's Quest In Avowed

Pay Ilena For The Food If You Feel Bad Ignoring Her

The fact that even getting the option to return the food is hidden behind a dialog option is telling, and Rossana does seem to have pure intentions even if she is lacking in her methods. Additionally, you won't receive anything for giving the food back, while choosing to pay for the food lets you feel a bit better about it and still give the food away. But that isn't the only reason to take on Rossana's quest, as there is another component to consider.

Full warning, there are some spoilers for the end of your time in Fior Mes Iverno next. While you may feel bad about not giving the food back, the fact is that the people of Fior Mes Iverno will leave by the end of main quest in the area. No matter what happens, the city will be abandoned, and the people will leave. Therefore, if you know a little too much ahead of time, you will understand that no matter what the food isn't going to matter.

Taking the future into question may feel a little underhanded, but at least if you pay for the food, Ilena will be a little better off to trade with wherever you send the remaining people. Money will be useful as they head into a new city, and it allows you to not feel like a terrible person. Interestingly, a lawful run would normally have you return the food, but I'm not sure the Steel Garrote would approve of that either in Avowed.
