Below Deck Down Under: 7 Signs Bosun Wihan Du Toit Is A Producer Plant (He's Causing A Lot Of Drama With The Season 3 Crew)

Below Deck Down Under'sWihan Du Toit, who joined the crew for his first season this year, and his behavior throughout the charter season has many under the impression that the villainous bosun is a producer plant because of all the drama he's churning out. Wihan, who joined Below Deck Down Under season 3 as an experienced bosun this charter season, has been difficult to watch throughout the season thus far. While Wihan clearly has the skills to work in the yachting industry, his personal issues with fellow crew members are often overly difficult, and make him seem somewhat produced.

Producer plants are frequently used in reality TV, and rather than eschewing them away from shows, they become some of the most highly-debated cast members season after season, especially in the Below Deck franchise. Throughout Below Deck Down Under season 3, viewers have been paying close attention to the cast of newer yachties as they're unfamiliar, and many have hoped to get to know them better. While the new yachties are a huge part of the show functioning well, they're also setting the tone for the season's drama, which impacts the viewing experience in an entirely different way each season.

Wihan, who joined Below Deck Down Underwith years of yachting experience under his belt, seemed like he was going to be a great bosun on paper. While he's often decent at his job in several ways, his skills are hardly the biggest part of his contribution to Below Deck Down Under by a long shot. Wihan's major contribution to the show comes in the form of his participation in the seasonal drama, and the way he's been able to stir things up aboard Katina, seemingly without really trying to do so. Wihan's become a drama magnet this season.

While it's clear that Wihan's time on Below Deck Down Underseason 3 hasn't been the most popular or easy, the way he's been able to cook up drama on the show has been formidable. Though some aren't having an easy time with Wihan, others seem to understand he's doing a good job at creating reality TV, even if it comes at the expense of other Below Deck Down Under cast members. While he may simply be doing his best aboard Katina, many have come to feel that Wihan is a producer plant for how much drama he's stirred up aboard.

Wihan, who may be creating drama as a Below Deck Down Under producer plant, has been struggling through the season, but it may all be an act.

7 Wihan Has Led On Two Of The Female Crew Members

He's Quick To Create Romantic Drama

While Wihan joined Below Deck Down Under season 3 in hopes that he'd be able to improve upon his skills as a yachtie, he quickly found himself connected with more than one of his fellow yachties romantically. Though Wihan didn't join Below Deck Down Under for a boatmance, he was quick to find an attraction with Tzarina Mace-Ralph, the chef aboard Captain Jason Chambers' superyacht, Katina. Wihan may not have been romantically interested in Tzarina, but she seemed to like him and the pair wound up kissing despite Wihan knowing he wasn't looking to get into a boatmace.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

After getting to know Adair Werley, who's working on both the interior team as a stew and the exterior team as a deckhand, he knew he'd met someone he was genuinely interested in. While it wasn't clear if Wihan was going to pursue anything with Adair, he led her on a bit as they moved through the season, and ultimately wrote her a cringey love letter that exposed his milquetoast feelings. Wihan's unconventional boatmances have brought more drama aboard Katina than anyone else's actions, making it seem like he could be a producer plant.

6 Wihan's Letter To Adiar Seemed Staged

It Didn't Appear To Be Authentic

Wihan found himself unable to express his feelings to Adair aboard Katina in a way he felt comfortable, but when he finally figured out what he wanted to do and started writing her a love letter, something felt off. While Wihan isn't a man of many words, he does seem like someone capable of speaking to women in a fairly standard way. Though he may not be the most confident, it's clear that he's able to communicate his feelings well enough, which made his love letter come off like it could've been staged.

Wihan's behavior with his love letter to Adair was odd from the beginning of the season to the end. While Wihan seemed to be doing something that he felt was kind hearted and sweet, he also seemed like he was trying to stir up more drama for the show by giving Adair a dramatic love note rather than just speaking to her plainly. Wihan's actions have felt odd throughout the season, and the dramatics of the love letter were just another part of the oddities that have followed him on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

5 Wihan Doesn't Like Tzarina, Yet He Still Kissed Her

He's Trying To Stir Things Up

Although Wihan's time on Below Deck Down Under season 3 has been full of surprises, one of the biggest surprises of the season thus far has been his behavior toward Tzarina. As a fan favorite yachtie, Tzarina's been watched closely by Below Deck viewers all season long, and her flirtation with Wihan was deeply unexpected. While it was clear that Tzarina was interested in Wihan, he wasn't totally interested in her, which made it strange when he made a move and kissed her.

While Wihan may not have meant to intentionally lead Tzarina on, it was clear that he was looking to stir up drama with the bold move. With their relationship complicated enough because of their differing levels of feeling and interest in one another, Tzarina and Wihan's romance fizzled out quickly once she understood that he wasn't interested in her in the same way she was in him. Even so, the fact that he kissed her at all gave Below Deck Down Under fans a bit more reason as to why he may be a producer plant.

4 Wihan Loves To Entertain

He's Always Looking For Attention

As a yachtie, Wihan seems to be more interested in entertaining his fellow Below Deckcast mates and the guests aboard Katina than he does in doing his job well. Wihan seems like he would have great skills on paper, but when he's meant to be executing his job, he's often paying more attention to the Below Deck cameras. Making it clear that he's very aware he's on TV, Wihan has made decisions that benefit the storylines of the season more than his actual position within the crew.

Though Wihan has had moments where he's solely working his job aboard the superyacht, most of the time he's considering the drama he's either going to ignite or has caused previously. Throughout Below Deck Down Under season 3, Wihan's ability to move through the charter has been unmistakably full of drama, and it doesn't seem like it's an accident. Instead, it seems like Wihan's looking to entertain and do so as much as possible.

3 Wihan Isn't Great At His Job

He Struggles More Often Than Some

Although he's had moments where he's a knowledgeable or decent bosun, Wihan has been more wrong than he is right about his position throughout the season. Wihan's decision-making abilities have been called into question more than once by the rest of his crew and Captain Jason alike. Though he has yachting experience in other areas, it's clear that he's never worked on a yacht of Katina's caliber, and doesn't entirely know what he's doing as a result.

As he's moved through Below Deck Down Under season 3, Wihan has caused issue after issue, relying too much on the rest of the exterior team to pick up his slack as he works through his problems. While Captain Jason has been clear about what he needs to do and when, Wihan often struggles to make the right decisions, and sometimes seems to lack the understanding of how to accomplish what he wants. Though he's been advised by other yachties like deckhand Harry Van Vliet, Wihan doesn't seem to be knowledgeable, which could be on behalf of production.

2 Wihan Doesn't Have A Relationship With Captain Jason

He Still Tries To Play It Up

Although Captain Jason appeared to be excited about the idea of bringing Wihan into the fold on Below Deck Down Under season 3, the pair don't have a strong relationship as the season progresses. While it's possible we're simply not seeing the better parts of their interaction, Wihan and Captain Jason haven't had good moments together as the charter season has progressed. Though the pair are able to communicate, there's not a lot of intention or enjoyment between them, and Captain Jason doesn't always appear to trust Wihan.

As Below Deck Down Under season 3 continues, it's become clear that Captain Jason is having a hard time allowing Wihan to take over when he needs to rest, or when he needs to be on the bridge and have Wihan on the deck. While Jason is doing his best to ensure that the crew is set up for success, the pair haven't been communicating in the best way possible, which has been difficult for both of them. While Wihan may not be pulled back purposefully, it's also possible that he's been advised to be withdrawn by Below Deck production.

1 Wihan Plays Fast & Loose With His Decisions

He Doesn't Seem To Care If He Gets Fired

Although Wihanhas been having a tough time as a member of Below Deck Down Under season 3's cast, it's clear that he's doing his best to be the most entertaining version of himself. Unfortunately, that creates more of an issue when other people's safety is on the line. Wihan and the rest of the exterior team are tasked with creating a safe environment for the guests and guiding Katina through the waters of Seychelles safely. While Wihan hasn't been too dangerous, he often plays fast and loose with his decisions.

Making snap decisions that may not be the best, Wihan has struggled to be mindful of the rest of the team with his choices. Playing things dangerously on a superyacht in general is always a bad choice, but doing so on a Below Deck superyacht is often even worse. Wihan, who may be creating drama as a Below Deck Down Under producer plant, has been struggling through the season, but it may all be an act.

Below Deck Down Under airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
