Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Melissa Fumero Reveals What She Think Happened To Amy & Jake After Season 8

Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Melissa Fumero weighs in on what Jake and Amy are up to after the series finale. The beloved sitcom ran for 8 seasons, and even though the series ended in 2021, the future of Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Fumero) continues to interest audiences. As one of TV's most beloved sitcom couples, their evolution from competitive detectives to devoted parents was a big part of the show's charm. The Brooklyn Nine-Nine finale saw Jake retiring from the NYPD to be a full-time dad while Amy continued to climb the ranks, leaving their future up to interpretation.

In a recent interview withSwoonabout her latest project, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, Fumero was asked about what she thinks Peraltiago's future is. The actor reveals that she envisions Amy achieving her long-standing career goal of becoming the youngest captain in NYPD history, while Jake continues to be a stay-at-home dad while occasionally working as a consultant. Fumero also adds that the couple may have welcomed a second child. Read her full comments below:

I would hope that she is captain now, youngest captain ever in the NYPD, because that was on her to-do list, and I bet Jake is doing cool consulting while also being a very supportive, mostly stay-at-home dad.

I think maybe they had a second kid by now, and they are kinda like living the dream, and maybe once in a while, they hop into special assignments and do cool stuff.

What This Means For Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The Series Finale Sets Jake & Amy's Future

Fumero's comments highlight how well the show handled its character arcs. While many sitcoms struggle to provide satisfying endings, Brooklyn Nine-Nine made sure that its characters had a clear path forward. The finale provided a strong foundation for Jake and Amy's post-show lives. While Jake's departure from the NYPD was a major shift in his character, it reflected his growth over the seasons. His initial reluctance to settle down turns into a genuine devotion to fatherhood while Amy achieves her career dream and aligns with her longstanding ambition to make meaningful changes within the system.

This proves that their ending was more than a momentary adjustment; it was a genuine evolution in Jake and Amy's relationship. The couple's ability to support each other while pursuing their individual goals was always a hallmark of their pairing. If Amy became captain, it would mark a major milestone in her career. At the same time, Jake's consulting work would allow him to stay connected to the NYPD without sacrificing time with his family. Fumero's take only reinforces that the show gave them a future that aligns with their personalities.
