Bungie To Reveal Next Major Destiny 2 Expansion In May
Bungie will be revealing the next major expansion to Destiny 2 during a livestream event in May. Destiny 2 has seen consistent content support since its release in 2017, and this new expansion will be the eighth major expansion to the free-to-play title. Despite some potential discourse about Bungie's other game coming soon, Marathon, it looks like the new content planned for Destiny 2 is on schedule, even with Bungie changing development strategies to make two medium-sized expansions every year, instead of just one large expansion.
The reveal event will take place over on the Bungie Twitch channel on May 6 at noon ET/9 a.m. PT, and the new expansion is titled Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate. Developers will discuss the expansion itself and "much more" during the event. Bungie's roadmap for 2025 listed the first half of the year's expansion as "Codename: Apollo," and with the reveal event set for early May, The Edge of Fate is likely releasing this summer, possibly in June.
What To Expect From Destiny 2: The Edge Of Fate
Destiny's Expansions Have Been Historically Large
While Bungie will provide specifics during the reveal event, the studio previously teased that the Codename: Apollo expansion (likely The Edge of Fate) will feature a Metroidvania-inspired destination and is inspired by 1960s progressive rock and animated shows (via GameRant). The expansion is said to take a non-linear approach with around 25 to 30 different story threads to uncover. There will also be new abilities and an overhaul to the game's armor system.

Every Episode of Destiny 2 brings new Artifact mods, balance changes, and exotics that shake up the meta; here's what to run in PvE Heresy.
The expansion will likely begin a new storyline, as the previous expansion, The Final Shape, brought a gratifying end to the Light and Dark saga, which correlates with the end of Bungie's previous development approach for Destiny 2 expansions. Previous Destiny 2 expansions and updates have had delays, but it seems like the 2025 content for the game is on schedule, at least for now.
This Is A Defining Year For Bungie With Destiny And Marathon
Destiny 2 Is A Popular Game, But Can It Maintain Its Prestige With Another Bungie Game On the Way?
Bungie has been known as the "Destiny developer" ever since it passed the reigns of the Halo series to 343 Industries. With Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate being the first expansion since the end of a major saga, coupled with the release of a new IP in Marathon, this is a huge year for Bungie. But with the discourse surrounding Marathon's comparisons to Concord, a failed multiplayer game that only lasted two weeks before being shut down, a lot of eyes are probably glued to Destiny 2 and how Bungie will develop the game in 2025.
Even with previous expansions having issues and release delays, Destiny 2 remains a popular game. We don't have long to wait to see what Bungie has in store for this next expansion, so hopefully, fans will be happy with what is shown, even if there are some huge concerns about Marathon right now.
