Cameron Diaz & Jamie Foxx’s Netflix Action Hit Is A Great Reminder To Watch Their Underrated 26-Year-Old Sports Movie With Al Pacino

Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx, the stars of Netflix's action film Back in Action, also starred in one of the most quotable football movies ever made. Following its January 17, 2025 streaming release, Back in Action has become a global hit despite its dismal 27% Rotten Tomatoes score. Diaz and Foxx lead the cast of Back in Action which also includes Glenn Close, Kyle Chandler, and Andrew Scott.

Before featuring Back in Action, Diaz starred in a handful of action movies, the most famous of them being the 2002 classic Charlie's Angels. Meanwhile, Foxx has fronted in his fair share of action movies as well, most notably White House Down, Law Abiding Citizen, and Collateral. In addition to Back in Action, Foxx and Diaz have starred in two feature films together: the poorly rated 2014 adaptation of Annie and the hard-hitting 1999 Oliver Stone football drama, Any Given Sunday.

After Back In Action, Watch Cameron Diaz & Jamie Foxx's First Movie Collaboration, Any Given Sunday

Any Given Sunday is a hard-hitting sports classic directed by Oliver Stone

Al Pacino, Jamie Foxx and LL Cool J in Oliver Stone's Any Given Sunday

Foxx and Diaz star in Any Given Sunday alongside Al Pacino, Dennis Quaid, and James Woods. The film also uniquely features several cameos from former NFL players such as Jim Brown, Lawrence Taylor, Emmitt Smith, and Terrell Owens. Foxx plays Willie Beaman in Any Given Sunday, a talented and no-nonsense quarterback who plays for the fictional professional football team, the Miami Sharks. He is coached by Pacino's Tony D'Amato, a well-respected and determined 30-year coach on his last legs.

Diaz plays Christina Pagniacci in Any Given Sunday, the young team owner of the Miami Sharks who has lost her faith in Tony's coaching abilities. While categorized as a dark comedy, Any Given Sunday is a gritty tale of sacrifice, intensity, and passion for the game and features one of the most inspiring sports movie speeches in film history. Foxx and Diaz's characters in Any Given Sunday are more grounded in reality, while Matt and Emily in Back in Action take on larger-than-life action blockbuster personas.

Any Given Sunday Is Still Cameron Diaz & Jamie Foxx's Highest-Rated Movie Together After 26 Years

Its 52% Rotten Tomatoes score is nearly higher than Annie & Back in Action combined

Any Given Sunday did not achieve universal critical acclaim like other classic sports films, but it still beats the response to Annie and Back in Action by a long shot. In fact, the gridiron classic's52% score on Rotten Tomatoes is significantly higher than those of Annie (28%) and Back in Action (26%) combined.

Out of their shared filmography, Any Given Sunday is the best film that Foxx and Diaz have made together. It also has the highest RT audience score of these films at 73% compared to Back in Action's 61%. Viewers don't necessarily have to be sports or football fans to enjoy Any Given Sunday since the performances of Pacino, Diaz, and Foxx are reason enough to give it a watch, especially for those who weren't exactly thrilled by Back in Action.
