Former coach Fabio Capello analysed the upcoming Serie A clash between Roma and Inter, underlining why it’s ‘an important appointment’ for both clubs.

The Giallorossi have shined under new coach Daniele De Rossi, winning three of three under the former midfielder, who now faces his first real test in the dugout in the Italian capital. Victory over the league leaders would be an important statement to the club’s management.

Inter’s victory over rivals Juventus in the Derby d’Italia last weekend puts them in pole position in the race for the Scudetto, giving them a four-point lead over the Old Lady. Beating Roma is another step forward in the charge to the league title.

When these two teams met back in October, Inter edged out a 1-0 win over Roma after an 81st minute goal from Marcus Thuram.

Writing for La Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello analysed the clash between Roma and Inter, highlighting what the former need to do and how the latter need to approach their remaining matches.

“It will be fun at the Olimpico, Roma-Inter is a challenge that carries with it many meanings, not only for our season. It is an important appointment for both teams, at a particular moment of the season.

“De Rossi, after his debut on the Giallorossi bench, faces his first really tough obstacle. And he will be called to a task that is not at all easy, he will have to understand what the league leaders’ weak points could be and, consequently, how to exploit them to his advantage.

“Honestly, based not only on the most recent results but also on the latest performances, I can’t see who knows what weak points in Inter.

“From today onwards, for Inzaghi and his players the discussion will become even more interesting, they are called to maintain the same concentration until the end and to reach the maturity that distinguishes great teams.

“I’m curious to find out if Inzaghi will field the typical formation or if he will do a turnover. It may be that the Nerazzurri coach is already setting his pace in view of the Champions League Round of 16. Given the squad they have at their disposal, Inter can afford to run on different fronts.”
