Captain America's New Suit Is a Total Departure From What We've Seen Sam Wilson In Before

Warning: Minor Spoilers for The Avengers #26

Sam Wilson's Captain America just debuted a new costume that completely overhauls the suit that fans associate him with, and it comes with a major tactical upgrade. Captain America's costumes are all iconic in their own right, with Sam's in particular being one of the hero's all-time best. Now, he has replaced his fan-favorite suit with one that prepares him for battle like never before.

The Avengers #26 by Jed MacKay and Andrea Broccardo promises massive developments for the titular team as they fight to take back their home base during Doctor Doom's global takeover, but one change has already taken place before the issue's release. In cover art by Valerio Schiti, Captain America wears a costume that differs from his more recognizable style.

This new suit gives Captain America an armored upgrade that gives him the protection he needs in the coming battle against the Masters of Evil, who have taken over the Impossible City. Sam Wilson is ready for combat in a whole new way thanks to this epic costume.

Sam's revamped Captain America attire ditches his goggles in favor of an armored look that integrates elements of Steve Rogers' high-tech Iron Man gear from Avengers: Tech-On Avengers, albeit without pulling too much from the Stark design and instead making it his own. As great as Captain America's other looks are, the lack of armor can become risky when he's faced with a dire threat like Doom's world domination, especially since Sam doesn't have access to his predecessor's super soldier abilities. With that in mind, it's understandable that his Captain America would switch things up, even if only for the time being.

Captain America: Truth is Isaiah Bradley's origin story, and while it is over two decades old, it is one of the most relevant Captain America comics.

When Sam Wilson officially inherited the Captain America mantle in 2014's Captain America #25 by Rick Remender, Carlos Pacheco, and Stuart Immonen, he donned the white and blue costume - with, of course, his bright red goggles - that would become synonymous with his time as the beloved hero. The MCU later adapted this costume in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, elevating its fame to astounding heights among the general audience. Still, even the best costumes need a refresh every now and then, and Captain America looks as badass as ever in his battle-ready suit.

In Any Costume, Captain America Remains One of Marvel's Coolest Heroes

Sam Wilson Continues to Set Himself Apart from Steve Rogers' Cap

Although Sam Wilson wore a costume similar to Steve Rogers' when he temporarily stepped up as Captain America prior to his official debut in the role, he's since distinguished himself from others who have used the mantle. In addition to his signature wings that he retains from his days as the Falcon, Sam finds ways to modernize the Captain America aesthetic, which fits his more current upbringing as opposed to Steve's temporal displacement. Sam continues to be the best-dressed hero to call himself Captain America, and his upcoming suit is sure to look even cooler in action.
