Chainsaw Man Cliffhanger Ushers In a Mysterious New Devil Who Wants to "Save" Us All

Warning: Contains spoilers for Chainsaw Man chapter #195Chainsaw Man has been building towards its climactic finale for quite some time, dangling the possibility of mass destruction over the heads of its audience with each new chapter released. From the very beginning of the uniquely structured, somewhat divisive Part Two, the threat of an invisible yet terrifyingly powerful Death Devil plagued the events of the narrative, acting as the catalyst for the chaos which has unfolded throughout the series' second half. Every action taken by Public Safety and the church, every traumatic experience Denji has faced, has all been in an effort to defeat Death.

The latest chapter #195, titled "Kill Me Tears", was subtly one of the more revelatory chapters of Part Two, which has seemingly preferred to keep its readers guessing at every turn. Despite that, it wouldn't be a Chainsaw Man chapter without a cliffhanger, and the entry closed with the introduction of a mysterious, all-new devil, who did not have the opportunity to fully introduce herself. While her being the Death Devil would make sense, considering all the build-up, it might not be so simple.

Chainsaw Man's Mysterious New Devil Might Not Be Who Fans Expect

There Are Several Possible Directions Chainsaw Man Might Take Its Newest Devil

As Denji and Asa shared their first intimate moment together since the aquarium date, a new student was introduced to Fami's class. With hair similar to Denji's and an overly anxious demeanor reminiscent of Kobeni, a close-up of the transfer student revealed those familiar Horseman of the Apocalypse eyes. Considering the endless build-up towards an eventual Death Devil reveal, the likelihood of this mysterious devil being the strongest in existence is high, though her unassuming appearance does raise questions.

It wouldn't be unlike Tatsuki Fujimoto to subvert his readers' expectations. Part Two has largely been practice in doing exactly that. But her behavior and appearance is wholly unfitting of the devil said to bring about the end of humanity, and her words only add to that impression. Upon introducing herself, the student claimed she was "here to save you guys!", which effectively goes against everything the Death Devil has been built-up to be. Given the Horseman eyes, there's a strong possibility this may be Control Devil 3.0, arriving to help Denji once more.

However, both Makima and Nayuta resembled one another, and the new devil doesn't quite fit that mold. There's an incredibly small chance the mystery student could be the new Blood Devil, though the eyes wouldn't exactly make sense for a non-Horseman. A month supposedly remains before the most fearsome devil is supposed to arrive, though there's rarely accuracy involved with prophecy, which leaves another glaring possibility: the Death Devil is truly there to help.

The Death Devil May Arrive to Help With the Impending War

Just before the mysterious reveal, Asa pleaded with Denji to kill her, and claimed that Yoru is planning something far worse than the end of humanity. The details of her plan weren't made clear, though it's difficult to imagine what might be worse than human extinction. There's a possibility that the Death Devil has arrived in order to help in the oncoming war against her sister, and whether her version of helping would involve putting humanity out of their misery remains to be seen.

Denji is consistently on the receiving end of criticism, but Chainsaw Man continues proving his critics wrong with each new entry.

Chainsaw Man Part Two is seemingly on the cusp of its climactic final arc, and the events to come will likely be the most chaotic and complex the massively popular series has seen thus far. Its newest devil may just be the final Horseman of the Apocalypse, or another iteration of its earliest villain, sent to assist the series' tragedy-stricken protagonist one final time. Fans of the series won't want to miss out on upcoming chapters as the world awaits Chainsaw Man's anime return in the Reze Arc film.
