DC Announces Immortal Batman, Teasing the Dark Knight's Glorious Tokusatsu Transformation
DC Comics is re-imagining Batman in an amazing new miniseries that has to be seen to be believed. The publisher has revealed details about its upcoming miniseries Immortal Batman, a new title under the Elseworlds banner that reinvents the Caped Crusader and his allies as tokusatsu superheroes out to save the universe.
At this year's C2E2 convention, the Massive-Verse's Kyle Higgins made a surprising announcement at his spotlight panel. Higgins, along with writer Matt Groom and artists Dan Mora and Erica D’Urso, are creating Immortal Batman, a six-issue, non-canon re-imagining for DC Comics.
Immortal Batman combines elements from the tokusatsu superhero subgenre with the Dark Knight's mythos. The series is set in a futuristic world where humanity has become part of a galactic civilization that has accidentally made contact with dark parts of the universe. Three heroes will rise and become immortal legends to free their universe from their world's dark shadow.

A Dark Knight Like Fans Have Never Seen Before
DC Comics is no stranger to reinventing its most iconic heroes in new and unexpected ways. The publisher's history is filled with ambitious stories that feature wildly different takes on iconic DCU characters and locations, like DC Mech, Dark Knights of Steel, and even the all-dinosaur world of Jurassic League. After an extended absence, DC Comics brought back its fan-favorite Elseworlds banner, an imprint dedicated to non-canon spins on the DC Universe with sequels to stories set in alternate worlds such as DC vs. Vampires: World War V, Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age, and Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter.
While fans only got a look at a few details so far, what's been released has been interesting to say the least. Preview art showcases the three Immortal Legends that will be featured in Immortal Batman, and they all have killer makeovers that make them look like they'd fit right into Power Rangers or Kamen Rider. Fans even got a glimpse at the concept art of the Starstrider, what appears to be Immortal Batman's take on the iconic Batmobile. There’s a lot of love poured into Immortal Batmanand fans of the tokusatsu superhero genre may want to take notice.

DC Comics is Going Bold with Its Amazing New Elseworlds Series
It's no secret that Kyle Higgins is a fan of tokusatsu heroes, having previously written Boom Studios' Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series as well as his own take on the genre with Radiant Black. Now he and his team are getting the chance to take some of that genre's creative flair and apply it to something as beloved and adaptable as Batman. The preview art alone is incredibly creative and if this series is half as cool as these previews, DC Comics and tokusatsu fans are in for a real treat when Immortal Batman is released.
