Real Madrid CF v SSC Napoli: Group C - UEFA Champions League 2023/24
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis blasted the ‘disastrous’ Serie A television coverage with some colourful imagery, insisting pre and post-match comments should be scrapped.
The patron has long been critical of everything about the way Calcio is run and the Lega Serie A approach to television rights.
He ranted about the subject again during today’s press conference, which he hijacked from coach Walter Mazzarri.
“The Lega Serie A is disastrous, an accumulation of total incompetence,” said the Hollywood movie producer.
“Why bring television cameras into the locker room when the players have half a testicle hanging out? They are concentrated on the game, don’t go bothering them.
“What are you selling, what is so spectacular about this sacred locker room moment? It is only the stupidity of those who sell these things to television companies.”
Along with imagery, De Laurentiis also wants to clamp down on the television coverage in the press conference rooms of Serie A stadiums and threatens to enact this new policy straight away.
“They also sold what happens after the match, where everyone is trying to deal with their own problems. In my view, it is much better for the coach to talk to the media the day after, calmly and having analysed the match carefully.
“I think the pre-match press conferences don’t work either, because the coach has to be left in peace to consider his options. He can’t tell you his tactical ideas, or that gives an advantage to the opposition.
“In fact, I am thinking of scrapping these pre-match conferences for the rest of the season.”
