Does The Last Of Us Part 2 Remastered Require A PSN Account On PC?

After nearly five years, The Last of Us Part 2finally arrives on PC in the form of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. With HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 also debuting in April, it makes perfect sense for PC players to experience the direct source material. For the first time, PC users can witness the dark, shocking, and brilliant moments of the single-player campaign. There's even extra content like more No Return characters to play as, but PC users are aware of one nagging element in Sony's PC releases.

Over the past couple of years, Sony has required a PSN account for numerous PC games, including Helldivers 2, God of War: Ragnarok, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. This is a big problem because many countries don't have access to PSN, like Algeria, Cameroon, the Dominican Republic, Nigeria, the Philippines, Venezuela, and many more. Even using a VPN violates the Terms of Service, so there's no way for people in these countries to play the games. Thankfully, Sony pushed back here, but it may still be worthwhile to sign in with a PSN account for added goodies.

PSN Is Optional For TLOU Part 2 Remastered On PC

A Great Change For People Who Play PlayStation Games On PC

Back in January, VGC initially reported that The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered would require a PSN account. The game's Steam page noted it, but PlayStation finally backpedaled. On a January 29 PlayStation Blog post, Sony dropped PSN requirements for all of its PC games, including Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Spider-Man 2, God of War: Ragnarok, and the upcoming Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.

An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC. Players who still opt to sign into a PlayStation Network account will also enjoy added benefits like trophies and friend management.

Forced PSN requirements were clearly meant to boost PSN numbers, but Sony made the right decision here. Over 100 countries can now experience many stellar PlayStation exclusives on PC, including The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Note that signing into PSN offers bonuses, which is still worth considering.

What You Get For Signing In With A PSN Account

You Can't Argue That PlayStation Trophies Far Exceeds Steam Achievements

Since PSN is now optional for PlayStation's PC games, extra bonuses and features await anyone who signs in. The biggest feature has to be earningPlayStation Trophies on Steam. Steam Achievements are practically worthless, as they're no moderation compared to the Achievement/Trophy system on PlayStation and Xbox. Earning Trophies here is a great way for PC players to dip their toes into trophy hunting, and this same feature also applies to Steam games like God of War: Ragnarök.

With hopes of The Last of Us Part 3 being laid to rest by Neil Druckmann, it's time to admit that moving on from the series is the best path forward.

In terms of bonuses, anyone playing The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered gets the iconic jacket from Naughty Dog's upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, for free with a PSN sign-in and 50 in-game points. These are used to buy skins, concept art, screen filters, and more. Most stuff to buy unlocks after beating the game first, however. For anyone living in a country where PSN is supported, it's worthwhile to do a PSN sign-in, but the fact that it's optional is still great for many who don't have that luxury.
