MANILA – Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco has urged Filipinos to reflect on the many faces of heroism that continue to shape the country, past and present, as the nation commemorates its heroes.
In a statement Monday, Frasco emphasized that heroism is not only found in history books but also in the daily sacrifices and quiet acts of service of ordinary Filipinos.
“Heroism lives on in the resilience of our people,” she said.
“In tourism, it takes many forms: the tour guide who tells our nation’s story, the hospitality worker who welcomes guests with warmth, the boat operator who brings visitors to our islands’ wonders, the small business owner who turns every tourist’s purchase into a cultural memory, and the communities that protect our natural treasures.”
She described their work as the heart of the Filipino people that uplifts the nation, even though they may not wear medals of recognition.
The country’s ancestors fought for independence, while modern-day heroes in the tourism industry carry forward the same spirit of service and love for the Philippines, she said.
“This day reminds us that true heroism is about giving of oneself for freedom, for country, and for the greater good,” she said, hoping that these heroes’ courage and devotion inspire Filipinos to build a future where every act of service strengthens a prouder and more united Philippines. (PNA)
