Dragon Ball: How the Return of Super Saiyan 4 Makes a Long-Awaited Fusion Possible
Warning: Contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #18Dragon Ball Daima has done the impossible, and brought back the iconic Super Saiyan 4 transformation nearly 30 years after its initial introduction to the franchise. Dragon Ball GT is arguably the most divisive Dragon Ball product in history, throughout all forms of media and entertainment, and the moment Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods premiered in 2013, the 1996 anime was made non-canon. Along with it, Super Saiyan 4 became relegated to occasional appearances in the strange, fan-service reliant Super Dragon Ball Heroes promotional anime series.
Now, the form has returned to its canon status following Dragon Ball Daima's episode #18, "Awakening". Complete with a sleek redesign that calls back to Gogeta's red-haired version of the transformation, Goku unlocked Super Saiyan 4 and immediately rejoined the fight with Gomah. Unexpectedly, however, the series' main Saiyan didn't have the upper-hand for long, and quickly became overpowered by the Demon Realm king. In order to regain the edge in battle, drastic measures will have to be taken, and might just lead to a long-awaited fusion.
Super Saiyan 4 Alone Will Not Be Enough to Defeat Gomah
Goku and Company Need More Power Than They Have
When Gomah was first introduced in Dragon Ball Daima, he was far from the most intimidating villain the series had ever seen. Small in stature, sly, and cowardly, the Demon Realm ruler was a far cry from the likes of Broly and Cell Max, who appeared in the franchise's two most recent films. This all changed, however, when Gomah got his hands on the mysteriously powerful Third Eye, which transformed him into a hulking warrior reminiscent of Jiren in build. He quickly overpowered Super Saiyan 3 Goku, and appeared unstoppable.
Super Saiyan 4 Goku, on the other hand, seemed to have the clear advantage over Gomah, before the Third Eye once again increased his strength and titled the fight back in his favor. With Goku once again on the back foot, Earth's heroes will need to find more power, and the best place to start is by having Neva unlock Super Saiyan 4 for Vegeta as well. Overpowering one Saiyan at his peak is one thing, but having to deal with two will be a challenge for Gomah, and if necessary, they can multiply that power as well.
A Long-Awaited Super Saiyan 4 Fusion Might Be Just What Goku and Vegeta Need
Vegito Might Finally Join Gogeta as a Super Saiyan 4 Fusion
Earlier in Dragon Ball Daima, the series made up for past wrongdoings, and finally gave Vegeta access to Super Saiyan 3. Now, the chance has come once more for Dragon Ball to give a transformation to a deserving character. The anime has hinted towards fusion from the very beginning with its Medi-Bugs, and now that Goku has dropped the pouch holding them, a perfect opportunity has arisen for Shin to let the two main Saiyans use his Potara earrings.

Dragon Ball Daima Teases Epic New Fusion With a Mysterious Promo
Dragon Ball Daima has many secrets left to reveal, and some upcoming merchandise is teasing the arrival of a mysterious new fusion.
Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta was one of GT's most popular inclusions, yet Vegito was never given access to the form. If the warrior born from the divine earrings appears in Daima, there would be no better time to debut him in Super Saiyan 4. Vegito took the form in Super Dragon Ball Heroes, though like GT, the series is non-canon to the official Dragon Ball timeline. Episode #18 ended on a cliffhanger, in which Glorio made a wish that seemingly went against Arinsu's orders, and all signs point to that wish changing whatever fusion is ahead.
Goku and Vegeta May Return to Their Adult Forms Before Their Fusion
Glorio's Wish Suggests the Cast May Return to Their Normal Adult Forms
Glorio's wish to the Demon Realm's Porunga was in another language, though it very clearly hinted at the nature of his request. He spoke the phrase "childopp", which is incredibly similar to "child up", suggesting Glorio wished for Earth's heroes to return to their normal state. The wish alone may provide Goku and Vegeta with the power they need in order to defeat Gomah, though if fusion is needed, fans will be treated to an adult version of Vegito or a Join Bug fighter.
Dragon Ball Daima's finale is just around the corner, and the best of the action is still to come. Gomah currently has the upper-hand in battle, though Earth's greatest fighters have a few tricks up their sleeve if they need them. Now that Super Saiyan 4 is officially canon once more, there's no better time for the series to give the form to one of its greatest tricks.
