Elden Ring Nightreign Release Date Is Breaking A FromSoft Series “Tradition"
Elden Ring Nightreign has finally received an official release date, ensuring that eager fans can pre-order it and everyone else won't have too long to wait. FromSoftware, the game's developer, confirmed via a new pre-order trailer that Elden Ring Nightreign is launching on May 30, 2025. Naturally, that release date elicited elation and surprise from fans, especially considering just how quick of a turnaround it has been.
Nightreign's shocking release date is just one of the many surprises fans have experienced when it comes to FromSoftware's latest title. However, while there is a lot of buzz around it, this release date marks a break in tradition for the beloved developer. Fortunately, it's no cause of concern for fans. In fact, this break in tradition is a positive thing, and hopefully indicates a bright future for FromSoftware fans.
Elden Ring Nightreign's May Release Comes Just Months After The Reveal
It'll Be Just Five Months Later
Elden Ring Nightreign is releasing just five months and 18 days after its initial announcementduring the 2024 Game Awards. This is significant as it is the first game in FromSoftware's history to get such a quick turnaround, at least from announcement to release date. Elden Ring, for example, was announced during the June 2019 E3 conference and then later released on February 25, 2022. It was nearly two years and nine months between its initial announcement and the official release date. It's worth noting there was a network test for Elden Ring in November 2021.
Similarly, Shadow of the Erdtree, something that's perhaps a little closer in scope to Nightreign, was announced on February 28, 2023, and then released just over a year later on June 21, 2024. Dark Souls 3 was announced on June 15, 2015, and then later released in Japan nine months later on March 24, 2016. Of course, no one is complaining, as Nightreign coming out sooner than expected is a positive thing. However, it is interesting to see FromSoftware release it so soon considering its past history of waiting roughly a year or more before launching.
FromSoft Is Bucking The Trend Of Long Waits
It's Giving Players Access As Soon As Possible
It has become fairly commonplace for games to be announced long before they're due, with the likes of The Elder Scrolls 6 and Silksong being the most prominent examples. Fans are getting tired of waiting for games they're overly hyped about, especially when the wait lasts several years. That's what makes FromSoftware announcing Elden Ring Nightreign and then revealing it's coming so quickly after such phenomenal news. It is bucking a trend that, while completely understandable from a developer's point of view, has become increasingly tiresome for fans.
FromSoftware is also hosting a network test for Nightreign to showcase fans what they can expect when it launches. Obviously, that's coming before the release date, which means that players won't have to wait long to get straight back into it after testing Elden Ring Nightreign. All of this is incredibly exciting news for fans, and hopefully an indication that FromSoftware will continue this release strategy going forward after Elden Ring Nightreign has launched.
