Exclusive: Rick and Morty's Next Adventures Revealed in First Look at RICKLEMANIA & Spring Break Out

The Rick and Mortyexpanded universe continues to get weirder and wilder thanks to the two latest comic book adventures from publisher Oni Press, one of which will be "a Breakfast Club meets Magic School Bus–style adventure," while the other drops the iconic duo right into the middle of a professional wrestling ring.

Screen Rant is thrilled to share an exclusive first look at Rick and Morty: Ricklemania #1 – written and illustrated by Marc Ellerby – and Rick and Morty: Spring Break Out #1 – written by James Asnus, Jim Festante, and Jake Black, with art by Dean Rankine, Angela Trizzino, and Warren Wucinich.

Ricklemania and Spring Break Out promise two very different stories, but fans can expect the franchise's familiar madcap style and irreverent tone from both, making them must-reads for Rick and Morty aficionados everywhere.

Fans of Rick and Morty will know that comics have proved to be a perfect medium for the franchise, allowing even more flexibility in terms of the places in space, time, and popular culture that the eponymous duo can explore, and lampoon. The upcoming Ricklemania series finds the pair putting the world of professional wrestling in a submission hold of hilarity, with the first issue set to be as absurd and over-the-top as the wrestling industry itself is, in all its glory.

The solicitation for the issue reads:

It’s Rick and Morty: Ricklemania, baybee! Wrestling fever has struck the Smith household! After stumbling across a wrestling channel on TV, Morty becomes obsessed with the Interdimensional Wrestling Federation and begs Rick to take him to one of their bare-knuckle brawls. While there, Jerry ends up signing an exploitative contract with the IWF’s sponsor, PRO Energy Drink. Rick and Morty must break Jerry out of the contract, and the only way to do so is to enter the ring and fight their way out!

Author and artist Marc Ellerby went a step further, hyping the series with a statement loaded with wrestling-coded language that fans of the "sport" will immediately recognize. Ellerby stated:

When Oni approached me to work on my own Rick and Morty limited series I knew exactly what I wanted to do: a big intergalactic fight comic. And what better way to do that than through professional wrestling, baby! So listen here, brother, are you ready to see Rick Sanchez suplex his way through a collection of alien jabronies? Are you prepared to be amazed at how much Morty kinda sucks at wrestling? This is the most electrifying mashup of sci-fi absurdity and sports entertainment you can find at your local comic shop. Wooooo!

Just from this paragraph alone, Ellerby makes it clear that he is well-versed in the world of pro wrestling, and is ready to honor the history of the industry by delivering an action-packed, laugh-out-loud wrestling tale in the way that only Rick and Morty can manage, which will appeal to fans of the franchise and hardcore wrestling enthusiasts alike.

Exclusive: Rick & Morty's Wild Comic Book Adventures Continue During An Unforgettable "Spring Break"

Rick and Morty: Spring Break Out #1 (Of 4) – Written By James Asnus, Jim Festante, & Jake Black; Art By Dean Rankine, Angela Trizzino & Warren Wucinich; Main Cover By Rankine; Variant Covers By Trizzino & Priscilla Tramontano

Coming soon on the heels of Ricklemania #1 is the Spring Break Out miniseries, which is set to be another classic Rick and Morty Adventure. The synopsis for the series explains:

It’s Spring Break!!! Well, at least for everyone else BUT Morty Smith. After an outburst in Mr. Goldenfold’s class, Morty and a handful of other students are stuck in all-day detention under the watchful eye of—oh no: Rick Sanchez! In a Breakfast Club meets Magic School Bus–style adventure, Rick takes Morty and the kids around the universe for a lesson on Spring Break they’ll never forget.

In other words, it seems geared up to scratch a familiar itch for Rick and Morty fans, delivering a high-octane, space-time spanning romp in the vein of the TV show's most beloved episodes, which will serve as another sterling example of publisher Oni Press’s unparalleled ability to conjure the spirit of the show.

While Spring Break Out seems designed to appeal to the franchise's core fandom, Ricklemania has the potential to draw in new fans with its amusing ode to professional wrestling.

That is to say, Rick and Morty continues to thrive in comic book form, with the scope and potential of the characters' epic adventures unimpeded by the budget and time constraints of an animated series. While Spring Break Out seems designed to appeal to the franchise's core fandom, Ricklemania has the potential to draw in new fans with its amusing ode to professional wrestling, making both miniseries vital and exciting to the ongoing success of Rick and Morty as a whole.

Rick and Morty: Ricklemania #1 is available now from Oni Press; Rick and Morty: Spreak Break Out #1 will be available March 4, 2025 from Oni.
