"Forget Those Other Doctor Shows": Stephen King Dubs 2025 Max Show "The Best" Medical Drama Out There

Medical TV series remain one of the most popular genres on television. The genre has been especially making a resurgence in the past few years. Grey's Anatomy is going on as strong as ever, now boasting a spinoff to its name. Last fall alone, two new medical series were created with Doctor Odyssey and St. Denis Medical. Unlike some of its more serious predecessors, NBC's St. Denis Medical took on a sitcom, workplace comedy approach, offering a degree of levity to the otherwise serious genre.

However, it is the procedurals and dramas that remain the pinnacle of the medical series genre. One of the original smash hits in this genre was ER, which ran from 1994 to 2009. Over the course of its fifteen seasons, ER was nominated for dozens of Emmys and won 23. The series paved the way for future medical TV series like House and Grey's Anatomy, laying the groundwork of what it meant to have a stellar leading ensemble. Now, another medical drama has come to the fore, and it is getting high praise from author Stephen King.

Stephen King Loves The Pitt

The Pitt Features A Former ER Star

King sings the praises of Max's medical series The Pitt. The series borrows its star from ER, casting Noan Wyle as Dr. Michael Robinavitch in the series. Wyle is surrounded by a supporting cast that includes Tracy Ifeachor, Taylor Dearden, Gerran Howell, Fiona Dourif, and Shabana Azeez, who play members of a Pittsburgh hospital community. Since its debut in January 2025, The Pitt has received great reviews, getting a 93% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. Screen Rant's Nick Bythrow gave the show 8 out of 10 stars, mentioning how well the series "showcased how the camaraderie between doctors saves patients' lives."

Taking to social media, King offers his own review of The Pitt. King's review is purely positive, applauding the medical drama. The horror author says "Forget those other doctor shows. This one is the best." He went on to call the series "realistic" and "heart-wrenching" with strong "human drama."

The Pitt also received a similarly passionate review from YouTube's Doctor Mike, who praised the series for its accuracy. The medical professional went so far as to deem the Max series the "most accurate medical series of all time." These two reviews show how this new medical TV series delivers both based on its medical content and on its strong narrative and characters. It is no surprise, then, that The Pitt got renewed for season 2 and has had enough appeal to remain one of Max's top TV series for weeks.
