La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Salernitana have decided to sack coach Filippo Inzaghi following Friday evening’s 3-1 loss at home to Empoli, and now all that is missing is an official announcement from the club.
Inzaghi only took over from Paulo Sousa at Salernitana in mid-October, but he has been unable to steer the Granata away from the Serie A relegation zone.
Salernitana currently occupy 20th place with just 13 points from their opening 24 matches.
Inzaghi has had 18 matches in charge between league engagements and the Coppa Italia, returning a record of three wins, four draws and 11 losses.
One of those wins came in the cup, namely the 4-0 win over Sampdoria at the end of October, before Juventus knocked them out in dominant fashion with a 6-1 result at the Allianz Stadium at the beginning of January.
The current frontrunners to replace Inzaghi at Salernitana are Davide Ballardini and Leonardo Semplici. Both are currently available after their work with Cremonese and Spezia respectively last season.
