Ghost Of Yotei May Be Releasing Sooner Than Expected, According to Reliable Leaker

Sony reaffirmed that Ghost of Yoteiwill be coming out sometime this year, and some new information from a reputable leaker may indicate the game is much closer to release than previously thought. Ghost of Yotei has been said to release sometime in 2025 since its announcement, but now we may have a more concrete release window — and it may be the best time for Sony to release the PlayStation 5 game, should this reported leak be true.

A leaker called Detective Seeds said on X that Ghost of Yotei is allegedly releasing this summer, either in mid-late July or August. The leaker said their two sources disagree on exactly when, saying that one source claims it is coming in mid to late August and the other source (who has been "spot on with info," the leaker claims) says mid to late July. Based on that information, the leaker guessed that the game will launch "somewhere in the middle" of those two ranges, but obviously, no official details about the release date are out yet.

How Reliable Is This Leak?

The reliability of this leak is up for debate, as all leaks should be given their due skepticism, but Detective Seeds has a pretty solid track record for reliable information. Earlier this month, the leaker revealed that DOOM: The Dark Ages preview and hands-on coverage would be released on March 31, and that was later proven true by the official DOOM social media accounts on March 30.

It's also worth noting that Ghost of Tsushima was released in July 2020, and several other of Sucker Punch Production's games were also released in the summer or very close to it, notably Infamous and Infamous 2. With new Ghost of Yotei story details quietly emerging mere days ago, PlayStation and Sucker Punch Productions may be gearing up for a marketing blitz soon.

The summer of 2025 would be the ideal release window for Ghost of Yotei. It would line up with the previous summer release of Ghost of Tsushima five years ago, as well as be just far enough away from Assassin's Creed Shadows, which is another game that features a Feudal Japan setting released this year.

Summer would also help Ghost of Yotei avoid some major competition in the back half of the year. Grand Theft Auto 6 is still slated for a late 2025 release, and several publishers are reportedly refusing to commit to release dates until GTA6 has one, which could cause major delays for games slated for a 2025 release. While nothing is confirmed outside of a 2025 release window, Ghost of Yotei may end up as the star of the summer if these leaks are proven true.
