GTA 5 Is Coming Back To Game Pass - Is It Worth Replaying?

It was recently announced that Grand Theft Auto 5 will soon be coming to Xbox Game Pass. Like its characters - who can take a rocket launcher to the face, then stroll out of the hospital unscathed - Grand Theft Auto 5 is starting to feel like an unstoppable force. Few games outside of MMORPGs have enjoyed such longevity, with the original version of the game coming out in 2013 and its community still relatively active 12 years later.

If you're an active gamer and have any interest in the Grand Theft Auto series, it's more than likely you've already played GTA 5 at some point over its long lifespan. However, when you've last played it does factor into whether it's worth giving it another go when it comes to Game Pass. If, for instance, you haven't picked up the game in the last decade, it may be worth giving it a look for several reasons. If you've never played the game, then I think you will probably want to take advantage of this opportunity to do so.

According to Xbox Wire, Grand Theft Auto 5 will be coming to Game Pass on April 15, 2025. If you happen to have the PC Game Pass, you will be able to play GTA 5 Enhanced, an updated version of the game with some changes to the original. If you're playing on an Xbox, then you will be playing the original or Legacy version of GTA 5 when it comes to Game Pass.

EA Sports College Football 25 made a surprise addition to Xbox Game Pass, but it is unfortunately only part of EA Play Membership.

Xbox Wire makes it clear that, regardless of which version of the game you're on, you'll still be able to play GTA Online's latest update: Oscar Guzman Flies Again. That said, you will need to have the same version as someone else to play the game with them, so you should take this into consideration when deciding how to play GTA 5 on Game Pass. As for whether you should play the game again if you already have, I think there are a lot of reasons why you might want to.

GTA 5 Is Worth Replaying Right Now

GTA 5 Has Added A Lot Of Online Content Over The Years

I'll start by saying that, if it wasn't for GTA Online, I wouldn't be recommending a revisit to Grand Theft Auto 5if you've already played it. The game's comments on celebrity culture feel very dated 12 years after its release, and its anti-capitalist sentiments feel somewhat hollow coming from a company that will reportedly be selling one of the first games with a $100 base price tag. That said, while I'm not sure if you'll get much from revisiting the campaign, I do think it's worth checking out GTA Online if you haven't recently.

Xbox Game Pass' April 2025 Line-Up Makes Me Excited To Be A Subscriber

April has a great line-up of games for Xbox Game Pass, including exclusive Day One releases like South of Midnight and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

GTA Online has pretty much never stopped updating since it first came out, and there is consequently a lot to do at this point. There are a series of Heists, similar to the ones you'll pull off in the main game, and you'll even get to interact with characters from the campaign to see what happens to them after the events of Story Mode. You can also start your own criminal empire, run your own nightclub, and use the money you make to buy luxurious yachts, condos, and even hidden bunkers.

It's also worth noting that, if you're playing GTA 5 Enhanced on PC Game Pass, the game has never looked so good. Thanks to ray tracing, the game has a lot of atmosphere and feels much more immersive than it did previously. The way light reflects off surfaces now makes the textures look a lot less smooth, and much more realistic. The water also looks a lot less murky now too, though I had always just assumed it looked a little gross to comment on pollution.

If you've never tried GTA 5 before, then I would absolutely recommend checking it out. Even if the online content doesn't appeal to you, and you aren't big on crime stories, there's a lot of fun to be had just driving around Los Santos and seeing what the game will allow you to do. I remember the first time I played the game, me and some friends had a blast just trying to steal an airplane, and seeing how far the game would let us fall into water without dying (a favorite pastime of mine from GTA 4).

I will stipulate that if you don't already have Game Pass, I wouldn't necessarily say that it's worth signing up just for GTA 5. If you've gone the last 13 years without seeing the appeal of the game, then you probably still won't get your money's worth paying for it at this point. That said, if you already have a Game Pass subscription, then I think you should at least give it a try, since all it will cost you is hard drive space.
