House Of The Dragon Season 3 Casts Sons Of Anarchy & Fantastic Beasts Stars For Penultimate Installment
House of the Dragon season 3 casts Sons of Anarchy and Fantastic Beasts stars for the penultimate installment. Premiered in 2022, HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series chronicles the decline of House Targaryen through the devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons. Earlier this year, House of the Dragon season 3 added its first new cast member in James Norton, who will be playing Ormund Hightower, the Lord of Oldtown and a major player for Team Green.
Now, as filming officially begins on season 3, two more cast members have been added. House of the Dragon season 3 has cast Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy) as Ser Roderick Dustin and Dan Fogler (Fantastic Beasts) as Ser Torrhen Manderly. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Ryan Condal teased what to expect from Flanagan's fan-favorite character:
I don't want to say much because I think this is one of those truly memorable Game of Thrones characters, and I'm very excited to bring him into the fold. But he is a fixture in Fire & Blood, and I think he's one of those true fan favorites. I'm very, very proud of the role that we've written. [Flanagan is] a delight and a thrill. I'm so excited to see what he's going to do with the character... I would like to say we've brought some northern spirit into our southern base tale here.
What House Of The Dragon Season 3's New Cast Members Mean For The Show
Who Are They & Who Are They Playing?
Tommy Flanagan is best known for his role as Filip "Chibs" Telford in Sons of Anarchy and its spinoff series, Mayans M.C. However, he's no stranger to historical epics, starring in Braveheart and Gladiator. Flanagan joins House of the Dragon's cast as the fan-favorite Ser Roderick Dustin, also known as Roddy the Ruin, the Lord of Barrowton and head of House Dustin in the North. In the show's source material, George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, Ser Roderick Dustin is introduced as "a warrior so old and hoary men called him Roddy the Ruin."

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Ending Explained: What Happens Next?
House of the Dragon season 2's finale brings with it some major reveals and moments, and sets up even bigger things to come in season 3.
Ser Roderick Dustin commands an army of 2,000 hardened Northern warriors, collectively known as the Winter Wolves, who are described in the book as "grizzled graybeards in old mail and ragged skins." On the other hand, Dan Fogler is best known for his role as Jacob Kowalski in the Fantastic Beasts movies and recently appeared in A Complete Unknown. He is playing another Northman, Ser Torrhen, a knight of House Manderly who is described as intelligent, articulate, and heavyset. Since the North is supporting the Blacks, Roderick and Torrhen will be major players for Rhaenyra's side in season 3.
Our Take On House Of The Dragon Season 3's New Cast
Dan Fogler Bucks A Game Of Thrones Casting Tradition
The casting of Dan Fogler, an American actor, bucks a longstanding tradition for the Game of Thrones franchise, which features predominantly British actors with only a few exceptions, including Peter Dinklage in Game of Thrones, whom Fogler will join as one of the only Americans to appear in the franchise. Fogler previously starred in Fantastic Beasts, a prequel to the famously British Harry Potter, but his character, Jacob Kowalski, spoke with a Brooklyn accent. It's interesting to see another American actor joining the Game of Thrones franchise, but how he fares among the predominantly British cast remains to be seen.
House of the Dragon season 3 is expected to premiere sometime in 2026.
