I Can't Believe We Almost Got An Anakin Skywalker Namedrop In The Mandalorian Before THIS Jedi Was Even Mentioned

The Mandalorianvery nearly name-dropped Anakin Skywalker, which has only added to my surprise that this one major Jedi has never been mentioned in the show. The Mandalorian has an interesting connection to the Jedi. The show is markedly not about the Jedi or the Force, although Ahsoka Tano's cameo began to change that, and Luke Skywalker's appearance in The Mandalorian season 2 finale sealed the deal.

This is also clear simply by nature of Grogu being Force-sensitive—even with him walking away from his Jedi path in The Book of Boba Fett. Yet another massive Jedi reference was nearly added to the mix, too. In season 3, episode 6 of The Mandalorian, Commissioner Helgait nearly name-dropped Anakin Skywalker when discussing Count Dooku. While it would have been thrilling to hear a reference to one of Star Wars' best characters, this only makes me all the more surprised that we've never heard a much more obvious Jedi name-drop in The Mandalorian.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Was A Key Jedi Ally To The Mandalorians

Obi-Wan Defied The Jedi Council For Mandalore, Something He Very Rarely Did

Despite the significant connection Obi-Wan Kenobi had to both Mandalore and the Mandalorians, Obi-Wan has never been name-dropped in The Mandalorian. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, when Mandalore was under attack from Death Watch, at the time led by Darth Maul, Obi-Wan openly defied the Jedi Council to go protect Mandalore and, specifically, Satine Kryze, which is something he very rarely did. In fact, so much of Obi-Wan's character was opposed to the actions of Anakin and Qui-Gon Jinn, who frequently defied the Council.

Obi-Wan openly defied the Jedi Council to go protect Mandalore and, specifically, Satine Kryze, which is something he very rarely did.

Because Mandalore was neutral in the Clone Wars, the Council didn't want to intervene, even when Duchess of Mandalore Satine Kryze was asking for their help. However, Obi-Wan (who interestingly seemed to be exhibiting signs of attachment at this point) rushed to save Satine anyway and was even clearly frustrated with the Council's insistence on inaction. Based on Obi-Wan's aid at this time and even his connection to Satine herself, one would think The Mandalorian would mention him.

While Satine sadly died in The Clone Wars, so she obviously would not be the one to name-drop Obi-Wan in The Mandalorian, Satine's sister, Bo-Katan Kryze, is a massive character in The Mandalorian and knew Obi-Wan personally. Not only did Bo-Katan work with Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka Tano at various points, but she was also well aware of all that Obi-Wan had done for Mandalore. In fact, even before his involvement in trying to save Satine in The Clone Wars, Obi-Wan had done missions on Mandalore as a Padawan alongside his master, Qui-Gon Jinn.

Granted, it's difficult to be too frustrated with the absence of any reference to Obi-Wan, given even Satine hasn't been mentioned in The Mandalorian. This has been a massive disappointment for years because Satine more than deserves the recognition, and it would make sense for that to take place in this show. While it remains to be seen whether that will eventually come, for now, I am still shocked that The Mandalorian came so close to mentioning Anakin Skywalker but still hasn't name-dropped Obi-Wan Kenobi.
