I Can't Believe We're Only Getting Deadpool's Iron Man Variant AFTER the Deadpool & Wolverine Movie

Warning: Spoilers for Pooluminati #1!Months after the release ofDeadpool& Wolverine, Marvel Comics finally debuts Deadpool's perfect Iron Man variant. With a plot about the multiverse, the movie was chock-full of variants of the Merc with a Mouth. Some variants were directly inspired bythe comics, and some even went on to inspire comics, like life imitating art, not unlike Ryan Reynolds becoming Deadpool ahead of playing him.

However, out of all the Deadpool variants seen on screen, audiences didn't get to see an Iron Man variant of Deadpool - until now. In the preview pages for Pooluminati #1 by Zac Gorman and Todd Nauck, fans get a great look at the wild new Deadpool look, even though it has yet to appear on screen.

Considering how much of a definitive character Iron Man is for both the comics and the MCU, it’s surprising to think that fans didn't get such a Deadpool variant until now. But bringing the two characters together for one variant could not have worked out more perfectly.

When tasked by a secret society of Deadpools for a mission, Wade Wilson and his daughter - the new Deadpool, Ellie - arrive at a temple, where they are violently greeted by a robotic Deadpool variant. This Deadpool robot can be compared to Voltron or even a Transformer, but it also looks eerily similar to a bulky Iron Man suit, namely one of Iron Man's new Hulkbusters. The Hulkbuster continues to evolve with time in fresh ways, but this Deadpool version is surely one of the more unique models.

Deadpool's thirty-plus year comic history has featured numerous twists for Wade Wilson, which are collectively impressive, bewildering, and tragic.

Unlike most Hulkbusters, this Iron Man-esque Deadpool suit is equipped with a gun on the wrist of its right arm, which it uses to shoot at the two Deadpools. Hulkbusters tend to be weapon-less, and sometimes, the same can be said for the average Iron Man arm ever since Tony Stark put his weapons manufacturing days behind him. However, as on display in this fight between the Deadpool-buster and the Deadpools, this giant robot is scaled to the size of a mecha, making it a formidable adversary with or without a gun.

Iron Man and Deadpool have little to no history in the comics, nor in the movies. They hardly appear on-panel together in any capacity - like when Deadpool acquired his own Iron Man suit - nor have they ever appeared together on-screen. However, that doesn't change the fact that they are two of the MCU's most critically and financially successful characters. Both characters have sprouted billion-dollar success with their franchises, and Tony is practically the MCU's anchor as the star of its first movie. Combining the two not only gives Deadpool an Iron Man suit, but pays tribute to their contributions to the MCU.

Pooluminati #1 is available March 26th, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
