“I’m Not Suspicious, I’m Just Weird”: Se Young Metzroth Didn’t Deserve To Be Eliminated So Soon On Million Dollar Secret

The first season of Million Dollar Secret gave us a host of new characters to get to know and root for as they competed to be the last one standing, holding a million-dollar prize. Million Dollar Secret season 1 started with 12 contestants, and in the end, only one could claim the prize of being the millionaire who'd been hiding in plain sight the entire time. While Cara Kies, the eventual winner, played a fantastic game during the later episodes, she flew under the radar at first, just like sweet Se Young Metzroth did.

Se Young stood out immediately amid the rest of the cast since she wasn't as glamorous as the others. She seemed like a shy, unassuming woman, a self-described nerd who I assumed might have some savvy tricks up on sleeve. I also assumed her outward appearance could be a ruse to throw the others off. Alas, Se Young was one of the show's first victims, and when the cast came for her like vultures, I wanted to hug her. She deserved more time to spread her wings and play the game, but nobody could save her.

Upon arrival at The Stag, the luxurious estate where the show is filmed, Se Young was immediately intimidated. "Everyone here is so fancy," she said when she met the rest of the cast, including the glamorous Sydnee Falkner and Sam Sepulveda, who are both models in their real lives, and the friendly, approachable Lauren Jean. Se Young did her best not to let her emotions show and blend in with the rest of them.

"Oh my God, there's not a single other nerd here. I hope I can pull that sociable part of me out of my butt and chat about... freaking I don't know... make-up brands and the Kardashians?"

Se Young's strategy was to smile and act disarmingly to the others and attempt to be social with them. That lasted a little over an episode. By episode 2, Se Young was getting dragged to the wolves, and it was all because her tears gave her away.

Se Young attempted to bond with the others, but she was intimidated by them. Se Young wouldn't be the first person voted off the show. That honor would go to Harry Donenfeld. Once Harry was out, suspicion shifted to Se Young, all because she was unlucky enough to have her name among a smaller group of known potential millionaires. While she wasn't the millionaire, she couldn't seem to shake the suspicion.

In fact, it was Se Young's strategy in the first place that got her name on the list. She was part of the group that got to choose the six potential millionaires, and her thought process was to choose one person who she actually suspected of being the millionaire and five who were trusted. This caused the others to suspect she was completing a secret millionaire agenda, which she wasn't, but the thought was enough to put her in the target zone.

As more and more participants came to believe that Se Young could be the millionaire, she couldn't handle the pressure. She said that after the first elimination, all she could do was go to her room and cry. While she was being sincere, the others didn't know it. They started to think her tears were part of the act. Part of the show is that the millionaires compete in secret agendas, so the rest of the cast knows to look out for odd behavior.

In Se Young's case, she was acting normal, but it came across as odd.

For instance, when the others decided to recreate a breakfast to solve a clue, Se Young couldn't remember where she had sat before. She bumbled about, trying to retrace her steps, as the others watched her, thinking she was putting on an act. She simply couldn't remember her spot. And as the others began pointing it out, Se Young dissolved into tears, unable to regain her composure.

As she fought for her life, she uttered, "I'm not suspicious; I'm just weird." The others didn't buy it and voted her off at the end of episode 2. I still think Se Young had potential if only she had more time to prove it. I think Se Young could have been a stronger contender, but in the end, she couldn't control her tears, which was the kiss of death for Se Young.
