I Thought Sam Rockwell's Monologue Was Going To Be The White Lotus Season 3's Weirdest Confession, But This Character Shockingly Just Beat It In Episode 7

I thought Sam Rockwell's Frank would take the cake for the most unhinged and bizarre character reveal in The White Lotusseason 3, but Greg/Gary's unexpected sexual fantasies in episode 7, "Killer Instincts," just outdid it. Frank, otherwise known as the "Hollywood director Steve", was a pleasant surprise in The White Lotus season 3, episode 5, making a lasting impression with his confessional rant about sex, drugs, and finding his true identity, which he discovered may be an Asian woman. Frank should continue to be a wildcard in The White Lotus season 3 finale after breaking his sobriety while helping Rick confront Jim.

Greg, who is still going by Gary at The White Lotus Thai Resort, has yet to retaliate against the Ratliff brothers after they both hooked up with his girlfriend, Chloe – and each other – on his private yacht. Greg finds out about it from the yacht crew and later asks Chloe for a favor rather than punishing her. About 42 minutes into the penultimate episode of The White Lotus season 3, Chloe makes an offer to Saxon that she believes he won't be able to refuse. Saxon's shocked and disgusted reaction to the proposal – which involves Greg watching him and Chloe have sex – inspires him to meditate with Chelsea instead.

While Frank's monologue was just downright shocking, Greg's deeply-rooted fantasy that dates back to watching his parents have sex as a child instantly surpasses that. Frank's bit seemed to be the weirdest thing that one of the characters was going to confess so openly in The White Lotus season 3 but Chloe certainly upped the ante by revealing one of Greg's darkest secrets. However, Chloe's conversation about it with Saxon and Chelsea seems somewhat strategic and intentional, almost as a lure to get Saxon alone. It could have been a lie to lure Saxon in, right where he wanted him.

I'm surprised that the insecure Saxon, who seemed to be mostly desperate to have sex with Chloe in earlier episodes of The White Lotus season 3, would turn down the offer to be with Chloe again. That unforgettable scene between him, Lochlan, and Chloe has apparently changed something deep with Saxon and how he views sex altogether, which is certainly for the best.

Similarly, Rick reacting to Frank's monologue by being utterly speechless was spot-on and hilarious in episode 5. It's clear to see how Chelsea and Rick are dating based on both of their perplexed yet nonjudgmental reactions to the absurdity they're hearing in separate scenes. They're really just getting to hear some of the most shocking things ever during their visit to Thailand, and it seems like they're here for it.

A psychologist would likely have much to say about the paranoid delusions Chloe explains Greg having about his previous girlfriends cheating on him with his best friends. Even though it's strange and somewhat tragic, I found it to be an interesting aspect of Greg's backstory, which is still mostly clouded in mystery. It is suspicious that he would tell Chloe so much about that vulnerable part of his life when they haven't seemed very close throughout The White Lotus season 3. Perhaps Saxon saved himself from a trap since Greg is mostly concerned about power and cannot be trusted.

There's definitely a strong possibility that Greg made up that intricate lie about his childhood in order to catch Saxon in the act and attack him, or something along those lines. He was lying about never having sex with Tanya since they slept together in The White Lotus season 2 shortly before he left to have her killed, so he could be lying about all the rest of it.

Greg shows several signs of being a narcissist who uses information mainly to manipulate people. He is likely incredibly insecure as well, which would make it shocking for him to tell Chloe something so twisted and embarrassing in The White Lotus unless it was a means toward an end.
