I Was Never A Major Fan Of Ross In Friends, But There's One Season 3 Episode That Briefly Turned Me Into His Biggest Supporter

Ross Geller has never been a major favorite character of mine in Friends, but there's a particular episode from Season 3 where I can't help but feel some form of sympathy for him. Even more than twenty years after airing its finale, Friends still remains one of the most popular and iconic TV shows in history, thanks to its relatable storylines, assortment of guest stars, and cast. Portrayed by David Schwimmer, who also famously directed several Friends episodes, Ross Geller acts as the most serious and intelligent member of the friend group and has provided many humorous, if questionable, moments throughout the show.

Although he is one of the main characters in the series, there are several harsh realities about Ross Geller in Friendsthat are more noticeable today, including his indecisiveness towards relationships, obnoxiousness and his superiority complex. Ross's relationship and eventual marriage to Rachel were also seen as very toxic and problematic, and Ross has been criticized for his poor treatment of her throughout the show. It's these aspects that make Ross one of my least favorite characters in Friends, but I admittedly can't help but feel sorry for him for what happens in this episode from Season 3.

In season 3, episode 2, "The One Where No One's Ready," Ross is anxious about giving a speech at an important convention at the museum and wants his friends to be dressed up and ready to go on time for the event. While Phoebe arrives dressed up, Chandler and Joey are too busy focused on a petty argument about a chair, Monica panics when she hears a voicemail from her former boyfriend, Richard, who was her first serious relationship in Friends, and Rachel takes forever to pick an outfit. Ross' patience eventually wears thin as time plays against him.

The fact that Ross just asks them to get ready and leave on time for his big event makes their behavior very disrespectful.

Although the group's antics throughout the episode are funny to watch at first, it's very frustrating to see how they continually disrespect Ross and ignore his requests for them to get ready. From the beginning of the episode, it's clear to see that Ross is already nervous about his impending speech, and the fact that his friends take so long to get ready only adds to his anxieties. The fact that Ross just asks them to get ready and leave on time for his big event makes their behavior very disrespectful, so I perfectly understand why Ross eventually loses his patience with his friends.

Despite Ross' mistreatment by the group throughout the episode, "The One Where No One's Ready" is still one of the greatest Friends episodes ever made. It was an episode that took place in real time and, aside from the end credits, was mainly set in Rachel and Monica's apartment. The episode is full of many memorable moments, including Joey dressing up in all of Chandler's clothes during their fight about the chair and Monica's paranoia about Richard's voicemail. Joey's use of the phrase "going commando" in the episode became a popular catchphrase throughout the media (via KQED).

"The One Where No One's Ready" is also remembered for being the episode where Matt LeBlanc suffered a serious shoulder injury during the filming of Chandler and Joey's chair fight scene; LeBlanc was required to wear a sling for several weeks - an aspect that was later incorporated into the show - and production on the episode was halted until he fully recovered. "The One Where No One's Ready" ended up being the most difficult Friends episode to shoot, but it's also one of those Friends episodes where you can't help but support Ross for what he goes through.
