I Was Wrong About Roblox & Fortnite, But I Won't Miss Out On The GTA 6 Metaverse

For a long time, I watched Roblox and Fortnite grow without fully understanding their potential for creativity. Plenty of players became creators and made a good deal of money from them, while I just watched. It seems like a lot of us missed our chances at making it big with those games. However, Rockstar Games is getting ready to release Grand Theft Auto 6, and it looks like a new opportunity has come.

Recent leaks and rumors suggest that Rockstar is reaching out to creators from Roblox, Fortnite, and the GTA modding community to include user-generated content in the game's online world. This isn't just another game; it's the start of a metaverse that could be more immersive and lasting than anything players have seen before. This is a great time to get involved in creating content.

GTA 6 Is Going Into The Metaverse

A New Challenger Has Arrived

Grand Theft Auto 6 seems to be aiming to become more of a metaverse platform, similar to Roblox and Fortnite. Rockstar Games is reportedly talking with popular creators from those platforms, as well as dedicated GTA content creators. The goal is to let these creators build their own experiences within the game, letting them change environments and add their own content to the GTA world. This would bring a new level of customization and create a space where players can interact with user-generated content instead of the usual online play.

Will the long wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 be worth it?

After finally getting the first trailer for the game in December 2023, a recent leak seemingly indicated that Grand Theft Auto VI will finally be releasing in October 2025, lining up with Rockstar's initial reporting that they would release the game in late 2025. While gamers wait to see if this news proves to be true, the question is also whether the wait for its arrival will ultimately be worth it, given it'll be 12 years since Grand Theft Auto V released when the sequel arrives. Though this time gap gives me some reservations, particularly as it seemed Rockstar were more focused on capitalizing on Online's success, the shift to a female protagonist and promise of a bigger map gives me some hope.

The potential for this is evident when looking at the existing GTA Online role-playing community. Servers on platforms like FiveM have shown that players want to create their own stories and experiences within the GTA setting. Allowing creators to design their own levels and narratives is an exciting possibility, and it would be a missed opportunity for Rockstar not to pursue this. By embracing user-generated content, GTA 6 could offer a new experience that encourages players and creators to shape the game together.

This approach suggests that Rockstar is considering a "games as a service" model for GTA 6, which makes sense regarding the expected playerbase that would follow GTA 6's projected first-year revenue of three billion dollars. By allowing user-generated content, the game can continually evolve. A key part of making this work will be ensuring that creators feel rewarded and motivated. The success of Fortnite and Roblox is partly due to their creator-focused revenue programs, and Rockstar could benefit from implementing similar programs to keep its community engaged and creative.

There's Too Much Competition To Become The Next Big Roblox & Fortnite Creator

Getting Noticed Is Extremely Hard

Roblox and Fortnite have huge communities that can be both good and bad, which helps Grand Theft Auto 6. On one hand, players enjoy a lot of user-made content. On the other hand, this large amount of content makes it really hard for new creators to get noticed. Every day, so many new games and experiences are added that it’s difficult for beginners to stand out against more established creators who already have a big following.

Most of the financial rewards go to the top creators, with only a small percentage of contributors making any significant money. Many creators see little to no financial gain from their hard work, and it’s tough to earn a living as a developer on these platforms. Creating quality content takes a lot of time and effort, but for many, the lack of financial reward makes it feel like a waste of effort.

What To Expect For GTA 6 After Take-Two Interactive's Earnings Call On February 6

The Take Two Interactive earnings call is close, and Grand Theft Auto 6 is the elephant in the room that may receive big news during the event.

The most successful creators got a head start when both platforms were new and less crowded. They took advantage of the smaller audience and simpler systems, allowing them to raise their followers more easily. Because of this early success, it has become much harder for new creators to break in and build their own audience. It seems the best chance to gain visibility on these platforms was when they were less popular, and that opportunity is gone for newcomers now.

That’s not to say that it’s impossible to make a big game in Roblox or Fortnite, but it is very unlikely. For every big game, there are at least a dozen lookalikes, so if players want to do well, they have to compete with those who understand the engine well enough to make clones quickly.

GTA Online 2 Is Another Chance To Make Money By Creating Experiences

It's Time To Try Out GTA's Metaverse

The launch of the next version of GTA Online offers a great opportunity for new creators. Unlike Roblox and Fortnite, which have a lot of existing content, GTA Online 2 will barely start developing its creator community. This gives everyone a chance to shine. With GTA 6 on the way and rumors of more focus on user-created content and collaboration with modders, the chances for success in this space are rising.

There likely won’t be a lot of money to be made on any space at first. However, helping to grow the space and improving experiences is the right way. It’s a slow build, but it will be worth it eventually, even if leaks claming GTA 6's online mode will be sold separately are true. This is a key moment for anyone willing to put in the effort, as it offers a chance to get in early and take advantage of a growing community. With an open environment and Rockstar's support, GTA Online 2 will likely be a great place for new creators to develop their own unique content.

I'm Not Missing Out On The Next Metaverse, And You Shouldn't Either

This Is A Once In A Decade Opportunity

Rockstar's upcoming release has a lot of expectations, including speculation of GTA 6 having a high price tag. This huge investment isn't just about creating an impressive single-player game. This potentially shows that Rockstar is aiming to build a successful online world or metaverse. The size of this project, along with Rockstar's strong marketing and large fanbase, creates a unique opportunity for creators.

Those who don't take advantage of this moment may regret it later. This isn’t just another game launch; it’s a chance to be among the first on what could be a groundbreaking platform. The opportunity with GTA 6 is unlike anything we've seen before. With the backing of such a huge studio like Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two, it’s hard to imagine the online mode will fail, especially since GTAO has a proven track record, and Red Dead Online's failure likely taught the developer some valuable lessons.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is likely going to be the biggest launch of the decade, and it’s hard to overstate how important it is. There will be creators trying to get in on day one, and those who want to become the next big name in the space should jump in as soon as possible. The RP community alone is enough proof that players see GTA as a foundation that can lead to a lot of fun.
