If There's Another Sons Of Anarchy Sequel Show, These 7 Characters Absolutely Must Return

If the world of Sons of Anarchy was to expand with a proper sequel show, there are some characters who should absolutely return, for different reasons. In 2008, Kurt Sutter took the audience to the fictional town of Charming, California, to meet the motorcycle club Sons of Anarchy (also known as SAMCRO). At the beginning of the show, the club was led by President Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman) and VP Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), but the latter eventually became President. Unfortunately, that never guaranteed that Jax would survive the show.

Jax never knew how to handle the power of being SAMCRO’S President, and took the club on less-than-ideal paths. Unfortunately, he continued to be manipulated by his mother, Gemma (Katey Sagal), until his final days. This led Jax to commit a crime that left him no choice but to die, though not before he killed Gemma. By the end of Sons of Anarchy, its main characters were gone, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any interesting and key characters left that should return if a proper sequel series ever happens.

7 Abel Teller

Abel Is Jax & Wendy’s Son

In the first episode of Sons of Anarchy, Jax became a father for the first time. His first wife, Wendy (Drea de Matteo), gave birth to Abel, but he was born with a heart problem, and Wendy’s substance-use disorder only made everything worse. Abel went through a lot when he was a baby, as not only did Wendy have to leave to recover, but he was kidnapped by Cameron Hayes in retaliation for the murder of his son. Cameron took Abel to Ireland, where he was put up for adoption but was eventually found and taken home by Jax.

Sons Of Anarchy's Real Victim Was Abel, Not Jax Or SAMCRO

Jax and the MC went through hell and back in Sons of Anarchy, but the real victim of the series was Jax's oldest son, Abel. Here's why.

Abel had a happy upbringing with Jax and Tara (Maggie Siff), who pretty much adopted him as her own, and Jax and Tara later had Thomas. Unfortunately, Abel’s happy family didn’t last for long, as Tara was killed by Gemma, and the latter’s lies ultimately led to her and Jax’s deaths. To ensure that Abel wouldn’t be involved with SAMCRO in the future, Jax arranged for him and Abel to leave Charming with Nero (Jimmy Smits). However, before they left, Gemma gave him the club’s rings, hinting at Abel not being able to escape SAMCRO after all.

A Sons of Anarchy sequel would need to bring Abel Teller back, as he’s one of only three heirs to the club (more on the rest in a bit). Abel also has a lot of trauma he will have to address at some point, and it would be expected if he grew curious about his family’s legacy with the club when he grew up.

6 Thomas Teller

Thomas Is Jax & Tara’s Son

Thomas Teller II is the only son of Jax and Tara, thus Abel’s half-brother. Unlike Abel, Thomas wasn’t involved in big storylines in Sons of Anarchy, except when Gemma took the boys to babysit them to give Jax and Tara some alone time, but as she drove under the influence, she crashed the car – Abel was wounded, but Thomas wasn’t. Thomas went through most of the same tragedies as his brother, most notably Tara’s death in season 6 and the subsequent downfall of Jax.

Just like Tara took Abel in as her own son, Wendy did the same with Thomas, and she earned her and Jax’s trust. Because of this, Thomas left Charming with Wendy, Nero, and Abel, but unlike his brother, he doesn’t have anything left from the club. Still, as Jax’s son and JT’s grandson, Thomas also has some right to claim a spot in the club, and if Abel also wants his, this could make way for an interesting rivalry.

5 Kenny Winston

Kenny Is Opie’s Son

Another legacy character who should return in a Son of Anarchy sequel show is Kenny Winston, Opie's son. Although he never had a proper role in all seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy, Kenny went through many tragedies. First, his mother, Donna, was accidentally killed by Tig, who was supposed to kill Opie. Sadly, Opie was never the same after Donna's death, and even though he later married Lyla, he became distant from his children and his new wife. Because of this, Kenny and his sister went back and forth between their grandmother and Opie and Lyla.

As the grandson of a SAMCRO founding member, Kenny, like Abel and Thomas, has the right to claim a spot in SAMCRO.

Later on, Kenny's grandfather, Piney, was killed by Clay, and in Sons of Anarchy season 5, Opie was killed when he sacrificed himself for the club. Kenny and his sister were left with Lyla, who struggled to carry on as a single mother. As the grandson of a SAMCRO founding member, Kenny, like Abel and Thomas, has the right to claim a spot in SAMCRO, and could be an interesting rival to the Teller brothers.

4 Nero Padilla

Nero Became The Guardian Of Thomas & Abel

Nero Padilla was the owner of Diosa and Gemma's sentimental partner when her marriage to Clay crashed and burned. Nero became an ally of SAMCRO and even a business partner, and earned Jax's trust. Nero did his best to convince Jax not to kill Gemma and for Gemma to escape, but he couldn't stop Jax's revenge. Knowing what was next for Jax, Nero honored Jax's request to look after Wendy, Abel, and Thomas. At the end of Sons of Anarchy, Nero left Charming with Wendy and Jax’s kids, and they moved to his uncle’s farm.

Nero is very well-acquainted with the dark sides of Charming and the final years of Jax’s SAMCRO leadership, so he would be a great mentor for Abel and Thomas – both to keep them away from outlaw life and to answer any and all questions they might have about them. If Abel and Thomas return in a Sons of Anarchy sequel, it would make sense for Nero to return, too, more so after he promised to look after them.

3 Wendy Case

Wendy Left Charming With Nero, Thomas, & Abel

Wendy was Jax’s first wife and the mother of Abel. As mentioned above, Wendy struggled with substance-use disorder before, during, and after her pregnancy, and though she and Jax tried to make their relationship work now that they had Abel, Wendy had to leave to recover. Wendy returned in Sons of Anarchy season 4 with the intention of reconnecting with Abel, but as Jax wouldn’t let her see their son, she threatened to pursue custody. Jax didn’t like that, and he threatened her back, shooting her in the arm with a syringe with drugs.

Wendy returned again in Sons of Anarchy season 6, where she and Tara joined forces to secure Abel and Thomas’ safety in case Tara went to prison. However, the pressure of their plan led her to relapse, but she recovered and returned in the final season. Jax told Abel the truth about Wendy, to show him that he has a mother who will look after him and Thomas.

Wendy would surely have a lot to say if the Teller kids were to return to Charming, and could even have a role that mirrors that of Gemma in the original show.

At the end of Sons of Anarchy, Wendy left Charming with Nero and the kids, with Nero promising to tell her the truth about everything that had just happened with Jax. As Wendy was once involved with the club thanks to her marriage to Jax, she would surely have a lot to say if the Teller kids were to return to Charming, and could even have a role that mirrors that of Gemma in the original show.

2 Chibs Telford

Chibs Took Over As SAMCRO’s President After Jax Died

Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) is one of the most loyal members of SAMCRO, as well as the current President of the club. Throughout the first seasons of Sons of Anarchy, Chibs’ biggest enemy was Jimmy O’Phelan, the leader of True IRA who kicked him out of this organization and took his family from him. Luckily, Chibs eventually got his revenge against Jimmy, and he was finally able to move on. Chibs was fiercely loyal to the club throughout all seasons of Sons of Anarchy, but he was also very objective, calm, and unproblematic.

Chibs is also one of SAMCRO’s most trustworthy members, so it’s not surprising that Jax named him his Sgt-at-arms, VP, and later his successor as President of the club. The spinoff series Mayans MC confirmed that Chibs continues to be SAMCRO’s President, so he would obviously have to return in a sequel series. Chibs would surely be happy to welcome the Teller boys and Kenny into the club, while also teaching them about their family’s legacies in the club.

1 Tig Trager

Tig Became SAMCRO’s VP Under Chibs’ Presidency

Tig Trager is, perhaps, the Sons of Anarchy member who went through the most (and best) character development. Tig started as an impulsive and aggressive character, so loyal to Clay that he would agree to horrible tasks, such as killing Opie. However, by the end of Sons of Anarchy, Tig had become more open, empathetic, honest, and controlled, though he was still very loyal to the club. Tig was responsible, to some degree, for some big tragedies in Sons of Anarchy, mostly related to Opie, but he also went through one himself when his daughter was burned alive in front of him.

Sons of Anarchy Secretly Made Tig Responsible For 2 Huge Tragedies

Sons of Anarchy saw many tragic deaths, and Tig Trager was responsible for two tragedies that hit the same family. Here's what happened.

At the end of Sons of Anarchy, Tig was promoted to VP of the club when Chibs took over as President, a role he has maintained ever since, according to Mayans MC. As one of only two original Sons of Anarchy characters who are still alive (as in, characters who were already patched members of the Charming crew when the show began), Tig would definitely have to return in a sequel show. What would be interesting about this is seeing how much he has changed since Sons of Anarchy ended, and the advice he would give to Abel, Thomas, and Kenny.
