If You Can't Wait For Bridgerton Season 4, Watch This 3-Season Period Drama That Debuted 1 Year Earlier
Since the season 3 finale, Bridgertonlovers have been eagerly awaiting season 4, but because the new installment is still a long way off, viewers should consider checking out this similar period romance in the meantime. First released in 2020, Bridgerton is a romance drama series which follows the eight Bridgerton siblings as they find love in Regency Era London. Thus far, three of the Bridgertons have met their matches, leaving five more to go. Bridgerton season 4 is set to focus on the second-eldest son, Benedict, who is a long-time fan favorite.
As high as anticipation is for Bridgerton season 4, this excitement will not make the new episodes come any faster. Based on past seasons, the show usually takes about two years to produce a new season. That means that Bridgerton season 4 probably won't drop on Netflix until at least 2026. In this way, viewers have about a year to fill until Benedict finally gets his love story. Rewatching Bridgerton is definitely a good option, but even better than that is exploring other period romance series that will scratch the same itch.
Sanditon Couldn't Be More Perfect For Fans Of Bridgerton
How Sanditon Compares To Bridgerton
One show that is ideal for Bridgerton viewers is Sanditon. Released in 2019, the showis based on Jane Austen's final unfinished novel of the same name. Set in the early 1800s, Sanditon follows a young woman named Charlotte who moves to a quiet fishing village hoping for a fresh start. However, her plans start to go awry when she meets Sidney Parker, a charming and ambitious man who wants to turn the village into a bustling resort. Sanditon ran for three seasons and stars Rose Williams and Theo James.

The 15 Best Period Romance TV Shows Ever Made
The period romance genre is full of some of the greatest TV shows in general, but the best within the niche are masterworks of story & visual beauty.
Sanditon has undeniable connections to Bridgerton. Aside from being set in the Regency Era and in the same country, Sanditon boasts many of the elements that have made Bridgerton so popular. There is a strong-willed protagonist, a town of quirky and dramatic citizens, and a romance that is full of banter, initial dislike, and steamy attraction. Charlotte's story is just like a classic Bridgerton tale, with plenty of mishaps and heartmelting moments. Sanditon also boasts strong critical scores, including an 82% critics score and an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Why Sanditon Hasn't Had The Same Mainstream Attention As Bridgerton
Sanditon Is Definitely Worth Watching
Despite having a very similar premise to Bridgerton, Sanditon did not receive the same level of attention from viewers. This is mainly because Sanditon did not have the support of a company like Netflix. The series aired on ITV in the UK, and later, on PBS. Ultimately, Sanditon did well enough to merit three whole seasons, but never got the big marketing campaigns that Bridgerton did. Regardless, the series still offers the same perks as Bridgerton: romance, drama, and historical quaintness.
Sanditon is available to stream with a PBS subscription or on Prime Video.
Overall, Sanditon is the perfect series to watch while waiting for Bridgerton to come back. Viewers can enjoy another touching love story set in the colorful Regency Era, but with new characters and new issues to overcome. Plus, there are three whole seasons with six to eight episodes each. Therefore, there is plenty to catch up on before Bridgertonfinally comes back to Netflix.
