Indiahikes Aarogya Seva Programme
If you are a medical professional — a doctor, dentist, optometrist, physiotherapist, nurse, paramedic, or anyone trained in healthcare — we invite you to be part of the Indiahikes Aarogya Seva programme. In this new initiative, you can be part of voluntary medical services and awareness programmes in remote mountain villages along our Himalayan trekking routes.
Why We Started This Initiative
For over two decades of working in remote regions, we’ve seen firsthand that local communities have limited access to even the most basic healthcare.
- The nearest doctor is often 3–4 hours away.
- Many villagers don’t know what is happening with their health until a problem becomes severe.
- Most villagers don’t have information about basic health issues.
- They visit a doctor only when things reach a critical stage, instead of learning to prevent issues.
On the other hand, we notice that trekkers often feel a strong urge to give back to the mountains. They want to contribute meaningfully to the communities that make their experiences possible. Yet, most don’t know how or where to begin.
Through Indiahikes Aarogya Seva, we want to create a platform for medically-qualified trekkers to be able to help mountain communities.
What the Indiahikes Aarogya Seva programme Aims To Do
Our goal is simple: To help mountain communities receive basic medical care and awareness.
Through this programme, medical professionals trekking with us can extend their itinerary by a day or two, and conduct a medical camp for villagers in the region, offering help and awareness that would otherwise be out of reach.
We are aware that you may not have the means or equipment to treat every condition you encounter. But even basic medical guidance, counsel, and primary assessment can go a very long way for villagers who currently have none of it. Sometimes, knowing what is wrong, or that nothing is wrong, is the most powerful form of care.
How Indiahikes will Support You
If you choose to volunteer:
- We will organise your food, stay, and logistics for the additional day(s).
- We will build awareness in the village so people know you are available for a camp.
- We will assist you during your camp with whatever help you need.
What You Need to Bring
- Your medical toolkit
- Basic medications required within your practice
- Your expertise and time
This is a completely voluntary service. There is no exchange of money involved. Even villagers will not be able to pay, but they will deeply value your presence and care.
Who Can Volunteer?
Any trained medical professional, including:
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Paramedics
- Other certified healthcare practitioners
If you feel you can extend your trek by a day or two to offer this service, we would be grateful to have you join the initiative.
