It's Official, Devil May Cry Is Locking In Season 2 Following Its Hit Netflix Debut

It's official, everyone! Dante is getting ready to make a big comeback on Netflix, and the announcement comes shortly after the Devil May Cry hero made their debut on their streaming service. Following the hit launch of Devil May Cry season one, the anime has just announced a second season is on the way.

At this point, no word has been given on when Devil May Cry season two will go live. However, Netflix is quite pleased with how the anime's first season is doing in terms of ratings. "Season one [of Devil May Cry] debuted at #4 on the global top 10 list with 5.3M views in just three days, [reaching] the top 10 in 87 countries and boasts a 95% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes," the streaming service confirmed alongside the new order. So, with numbers like this in hand, it is easy to see why Netflix pushed the video game adaptation towards a new season.

Devil May Cry Marks Another Hit Anime Original For Netflix

From Castlevania to Devilman Crybaby, Netflix Is All-In On Anime

As Devil May Cry enjoys success with season one, the Netflix anime is only expanding the streaming service's long list of hit originals. In the late '10s, Netflix kickstarted its investment in anime with original series like Devilman Crybaby and Castlevania. In the years since, Netflix has released over 100 original anime titles from Aggretsuko to Pluto and Ranma 1/2.

Of course, Devil May Cry is the latest addition to Netflix's impressive catalog. The show comes courtesy of Adi Shankar, the visionary behind the Castlevania anime, alongside Studio Mir. The show, which stars voice actors such as Johnny Yong Bosch and Chris Coppola, earned praise for its ambitious fight sequences upon debuting in early April 2025. It did not take long for Netflix to order a new season of the anime, giving us a clear look at the site's interest in anime.

Devil May Cry Season 2 May Not Be The End Of The Show

Thanks to Capcom, Dante's History Goes Way Back

As for what Devil May Cry season two has in store, well - those details are not quite clear. Netflix has only announced that a new season is on the way, leaving fans to ponder over its release window and story arc. In season one, Devil May Cry leans into its video game lore as we see Dante go head-to-head against a terrorist known as the White Rabbit. The demon-loving assailant wants to get revenge on mankind, leaving Dante to hunt down White Rabbit before the terrorist can merge humanity with a horde of hellish devils.

Devil May Cry season two has plenty of video game lore left to explore as the franchise's roots go way back. Created in 2001 under Capcom, Devil May Cry has five mainline titles as well as a handful of spin-off games to boot. Focusing on Dante, the devil hunter is as good as video game royalty nowadays. He has plenty of backstories to fuel Netflix's new hit anime for seasons to come. So if you have yet to see what season one is all about, Devil May Cry is now streaming on Netflix.
