Jujutsu Kaisen Nearly Turned Gojo Into Sasuke, But One Story Changed Everything
Satoru Gojo is widely recognized as the strongest sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen, possessing unmatched power that grants him near invincibility. His abilities, including Limitless and Six Eyes, place him on an entirely different pedestal, allowing him to change the course of any battle he enters. With such power, Gojo embodies the pinnacle of jujutsu society.
However, despite his overwhelming strength, Gojo’s journey could have taken a very different path. Initially, his confidence in his abilities led him to believe that he could accomplish everything on his own. As the story unfolds, Gojo realizes that his worldview is flawed, and he experiences a shift in mindset that changes his character and the story as a whole.
Like Sasuke, Satoru Gojo Was Heading Down a Dangerous Path
At One Point, Both Gojo and Sasuke Walked a Path of Solitude
Sasuke Uchiha’s journey in Naruto is marked by his obsession with power and desire to surpass everyone around him. He was driven by the trauma of losing his clan and chose a path of isolation, believing only he could achieve his goals through strength and independence. As his power grew, so did his detachment, leading him to reject friendships and bonds with anyone. Sasuke’s journey became dangerous after he started to believe that he must walk alone to achieve true strength and leave behind those who cared about him.

One Thing Sets Jujutsu Kaisen's Mahito And Sukuna Apart From Other Villains, And It's Why They're So Iconic
Jujutsu Kaisen's villains are all terrifying in their own ways, but one characteristic differentiates Mahito and Sukuna from the rest.
Gojo’s story in Jujutsu Kaisen initially seemed to be heading in a similar direction. As the strongest, Gojo believed that his abilities set him apart from others and acted with an arrogant sense of invincibility. Like Sasuke, he was isolated by his strength and believed that he could accomplish anything alone. This mindset pushed him further into a solitary existence, where he relied only on his power and rarely allowed others to shine. However, as the storyline progressed, Gojo’s evolution began to change this belief, showing that even the strongest need allies.
“Gojo Once Believed His Strength Was Absolute”
Satoru Gojo Held the Belief That With His Power, He Wouldn’t Need Anyone
Gojo’s confidence in his power stems from his unmatched abilities, including his Limitless and Six Eyes techniques. These extraordinary skills grant him an almost godlike advantage over his opponents and make him feel invincible, reinforcing the belief that he can handle any threat on his own. His overwhelming power allowed him to remain detached from others, operating as a solitary figure who rarely needed assistance. This isolation was more than personal preference; it was a direct result of his power.
However, Gojo’s interaction with Megumi Fushiguro’s father, Toji, marked a critical turning point in his life. He discovered that his power, though immense, did not render him unconquerable. After Toji’s death, he revealed that he had a son who, in a few years, would be sold to the Zenin clan. After his awakening and Geto’s absence, Gojo found Megumi and encouraged him to become strong enough to keep pace with him. This shift marks the change in Gojo’s mindset as he recognizes the value of strong allies. Yuichi Nakamura, Gojo’s voice actor, commented on this in the following statement:
“Gojo once believed his strength was absolute, but this arc showed him otherwise. He realized the need for strong allies. It’s interesting how Fushiguro’s father’s words influenced this. Gojo rarely shows up in critical moments, and perhaps it's deliberate, to let others grow.”
Jujutsu Kaisen Is Better Thanks to Gojo’s Growth
The Series Would Have Suffered if He Hadn’t Altered His Mindset
Had Gojo chosen the path of power and isolation,Jujutsu Kaisen would have taken a drastically different turn. A version of Gojo who remained secluded and unwilling to accept comrades would mirror darker character arcs like Sasuke’s or even Geto’s. While his immense power might have resulted in flashy battles, his presence would have lacked depth. A Gojo who never questioned his strength would have been a static figure, remaining untouchable and ultimately unrelatable, leading to a colder, more one-dimensional character.
Instead, Gojo’s willingness to grow transforms him from a distant powerhouse into a fully realized character. His choice to mentor Megumi, trust his students, and step aside in key moments adds depth to the storyline. By allowing other characters the opportunity to grow and assume significant roles, Gojo reinforces his belief in the next generation of jujutsu sorcerers. His initial defeat against Toji and the path Geto chose all culminate in Gojo’s realization that the sorcerer's society is broken and must evolve; a realization that drives much of what makes Jujutsu Kaisen so compelling.
