According to news agency ANSA, Juventus, Milan and Inter are pushing forward with their plea to reduce Serie A from 20 to 18 clubs.
There had already been suggestions over the last few days that the big three were joining together to support the plan, which was initially proposed by FIGC President Gabriele Gravina.
Now ANSA claims that today representatives from Juventus, Milan and Inter all met with Gravina at the Federation headquarters to propose they work together on this.
Present at the meeting were Inter CEO Beppe Marotta, Juventus general manager Maurizio Scanavino and director Francesco Calvo, plus Milan President Paolo Scaroni in a video conference call.
They face stiff opposition, as the Lega Serie A has already warned it will fight the idea of reducing the number of clubs in the Italian top flight.
It would be a return to the old system, as Serie A did have 18 clubs until expanding to 20 in the 2003-04 campaign.
This is seen as a way of reducing the packed fixture list and making Serie A more competitive overall, raising the quality level.
