Major Tyranid Monsters From Space Marine 2 Finally Get Their Own Miniatures via Warhammer 40K: Kill Team

A terrifying Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 foe is getting a new miniature thanks to a Warhammer 40,000 spinoff game. Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team is a smaller version of Warhammer 40,000 that involves small groups of operatives fighting over specific objectives. Instead of armies that comprise dozens of new miniatures, Kill Teams typically have a dozen or fewer miniatures. The game has become a testing ground for specialized units and detachments, and the newest box set is bringing in a much-feared Tyranid foe straight out of the third-person shooter Space Marine 2.

The Raveners, a kind of Tyranid monster capable of burrowing underground, will be featured in Kill Team's next boxed set. Kill Team: Typhon will include five different Ravener miniatures, per an official post on the Warhammer Community site, marking the first time since Warhammer 40K's fifth edition that the monster has gotten a dedicated miniature. These Raveners are amazingly deadly with variant builds, including some with the ability to shoot venom from nasty-looking arm appendages. The new Raveners make up Kill Team's smallest group of operatives yet, with only five miniatures.

What's In Warhammer 40K: Kill Team: Typhon?

Box Contains Two Full Kill Teams, Including Brand New Raveners Miniatures

In addition to the five Ravener miniatures, Kill Team: Typhonalso includes a Warhammer 40K Adeptus Mechanicus Kill Team. This squad consists of a Technoarcheologist and a Servitor Overseer, along with a host of Servitors meant to do the faction's bidding. Also included in the box is new Tyranid-infested terrain, which can be used in a match of Kill Team or any Warhammer 40K game. A new rulebook with details on the box's faction, lore, and new objective setups are also included in the box.

The new Emperor's Children army box contains a whopping 26 miniatures, enough to form the foundation of a dangerous new Warhammer 40,000 army.

If you're looking to jump into Warhammer 40K: Kill Team for the first time, players are also recommended to at least buy the Core Rulebook alongside the new Kill Team: Typhon set. Each Kill Team box includes two factions, terrain, and new rules, but they also require the Core Rulebook to fully utilize. Also, the units found in Kill Team can also be put onto the table in a standard game of Warhammer 40K, meaning that a player can eventually use their Raveners in a full Tyranid army if they'd like.

Our Take: Kill Team Continues To Push What's Possible On The Tabletop

We Expect To See More Space Marine 2 Crossovers Soon

One of my favorite parts of Warhammer 40K: Kill Team is how the game continues to push out specialty units and reformat them for new uses. Many Kill Team factions are precursors to wider line refreshes, so it wouldn't surprise me to see some of the nastier Space Marine 2 Tyranid foes eventually make their way into Warhammer 40K if this new box does well. If you're looking to try out the world of Warhammer 40K and love monstrous space snakes with swords for arms, we recommend giving this new box of minis a try.

Warhammer 40,000, often abbreviated as Warhammer 40K or simply 40K, is a miniature wargame produced by Games Workshop. Set in a dystopian science-fantasy universe, it is the most popular miniature wargame globally. Players enact battles using miniature models of warriors and vehicles on a tabletop battlefield. Since its first edition in 1987, the franchise has expanded into various media, including novels, video games, and board games.
