Malcolm In The Middle Revival Casts First New Cast Member With Fear Street Star
Disney+'s Malcolm in the Middle revival series has secured its first new cast member, in the form of a Fear Street star. Created by Linwood Boomer, Malcolm in the Middle became one of Fox's most popular and successful comedy shows, running for seven seasons and 151 episodes, between 2000 and 2006. The hit 2000s sitcom, starring Bryan Cranston pre-Walter White, Frankie Muniz, and Jane Kaczmarek was picked up for a four-episode revival in December 2024, and Boomer is also set to return as writer and executive producer on the project, which has also begun casting its new characters.
Per Variety, the show has announced that Fear Street and The Flash star Kiana Madeira will join the cast of the Emmy Award-winning hit comedy series, in the role of Malcolm's outspoken girlfriend, who will join him at his parents' 40th wedding anniversary party. She is described as being "way out of his league."
What This Means For Malcolm In The Middle's Disney+ Revival
High Viewership Might Result In An Extended Run
There is no indication as yet that the other cast members from the hit show may return, but the fact that Cranston, Muniz, and Kaczmarek have all agreed to reprise their roles should be encouraging. While no further casting details have been released yet, Malcolm is set to have a daughter for the revival, but an actor has not been announced. It could well be that the storyline will only feature a limited number of characters, and thus the cast list will be small, but there is certainly a big pool of talent that could be brought back.
There is every chance that, if the revival is successful, and all the cast are interested (and available), there is scope to expand the episode count, and bring the show back long term.
The revival series is only set to run for four episodes, making it much shorter than the typical seasons of the show, which mostly ran 22 episodes, but could wind up ranking among Malcolm in the Middle's best episodes. However, there is every chance that, if the revival is successful, and all the cast are interested (and available), there is scope to expand the episode count, and bring the show back long term. Whether Madeira's contract could be extended remains to be seen, and much will depend on the narrative evolution of her character's relationship with Malcolm.
Our Verdict On A Malcolm In The Middle Revival
With The Right Combination Of New & Legacy Cast Members, The Show Could Thrive
Malcolm in the Middle was one of the most iconic sitcoms of the 2000s, and trying to replicate the magic between the cast, as well as the quirky and off-beat humor would be incredibly hard to achieve with a remake or reboot. However, a Malcolm in the Middle revival show might actually prove to be a big success, especially if the series is going to continue adding strong talent like Madeira to the cast list.
