Fabio Maresca has officially been appointed as the referee for the crucial upcoming Serie A match between Serie A leaders Inter and title challengers Juventus on Sunday evening.
Maresca will be joined by assistant referees Alessandro Giallatini and Ciro Carbone, with Daniele Doveri set to take charge of fourth official duties. The VAR booth will be controlled by Massimiliano Irrati, with Aleandro Di Paolo his assistant.
Sunday’s showdown is set to be the biggest game of the Serie A season so far, as Inter currently lead Juventus by a one-point margin at the top of the division. The Nerazzurri currently have a game in hand over the Bianconeri.
Maresca had plenty of action to deal with in his last Serie A outing, which was Milan’s eventful 3-2 victory over Udinese at the Stadio Friuli.
During that game, play was temporarily suspended after Mike Maignan walked off the pitch in response to racist abuse from sections of the Udinese stands.
Maresca has taken charge of Inter twice already this season, both of which were wins for SImone Inzaghi’s side. Those were the 1-0 win over Roma at San Siro in October and the 20 win over Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico a week before Christmas.
This will be the second occasion that he has refereed Juventus in 2023-24, with the previous encounter coming in the 3-1 win over Lazio back in September, as pointed out by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
