Former Italy and Inter defender Marco Materazzi joked that he hopes Roma go on to win every one of their remaining games of the season, but only after they face the Nerazzurri at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday evening.
His former international teammate and fellow 2006 World Cup winner Daniele De Rossi will be in the dugout for his fourth Serie A match in charge of his beloved Roma when the league leaders Inter, under the guidance of Simone Inzaghi, visit the capital on Saturday, kicking off at 17.00 GMT.
Roma have enjoyed three consecutive wins under De Rossi after parting ways with Jose Mourinho in mid-January, but Inter will provide the fledgling coach with the biggest test of his career to date.
Agreeing that Roma will have their work cut out for them when the Nerazzurri visit on Saturday evening, Materazzi said: “For Roma. it is the first real test, it certainly won’t be a walk in the park for Inter either,” in a recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, reported via TMW.
“Let’s do this, but I hope that Roma win every game from next week onwards,” he laughed.
Materazzi also has a special relationship with De Rossi’s predecessor, Mourinho, who guided Inter to a famous treble in 2010, before leaving to join Real Madrid that summer.
“I believe that nobody at Trigoria is a happier man than him (De Rossi) these days. And I am happy for him, at least as much as I am sorry for Jose Mourinho for the way that it ended.
“Coaching at Roma was a great dream of his, unfortunately it is no more.”
