President Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed the importance of the decree banning the planting of transgenic white corn in Mexico, highlighting that it is a fundamental measure for both health and the protection of biodiversity in the country. During the conference, Sheinbaum explained that, although the deputies have added other issues that are being reviewed by the Constitutional Affairs Committee, the essence of the decree remains intact.

“What the decree says is that the planting of white corn in Mexico must not be transgenic. The president explained that Mexico imports yellow corn, mainly for animal consumption, and that the restriction applied is specific to the white corn produced in the country.
