Stefano Pioli must fight for his Milan job, but according to Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri had ‘practically decided to sack’ the Italian tactician in December.

Pioli’s Milan contract expires in June 2025 and despite growing reports of his exit at the end of the season, President Paolo Scaroni and CEO Giorgio Furlani have recently confirmed their trust in the Parma-born coach.

According to Calciomercato.com, however, the Serie A giants had practically decided to sack their coach in December following a ‘disappointing’ 2-2 draw against Salernitana at the Stadio Arechi.

However, a lack of convincing replacements and the backing from Milan’s most experienced players reportedly convinced the club to confirm Pioli until the end of the campaign.

According to the report, Pioli’s chances to remain in charge of the Diavoli next season are pretty low, even if the 58-year-old can still save his job by winning the Europa League or the Serie A title even if this is an arduous task given that Inter have an eight-point lead over their city rivals with a game in hand.

The report mentions Antonio Conte, Thiago Motta, Roberto De Zerbi and Julen Lopetegui as coaches with ‘interesting characteristics’ for executives at Casa Milan.
