Move Over, Spider-Man! Mary Jane Has Found a New Husband With Marvel's Blessing

WARNING! Spoilers for All-New Venom #5

Spider-Man's day just got a lot worse, because Mary Jane Watson is ready to marry Venom in new cover art for the All-New Venom series. Now that Mary Jane has been announced as the new host for the Venom symbiote, Marvel is pulling out all the stops in showing off its most unusual "couple", and they've even gotten married in an unexpected turn of events.

AIPT Comics has unveiled a first look at a new variant cover for All-New Venom #7 by Al Ewing and Carlos Gómez. The cover, drawn by artist David Baldeón, depicts Mary Jane marrying none other than Venom. In the background, various characters from All-New Venom watch in horror. These include Paul, Mary Jane's current boyfriend, while Spider-Man is nowhere to be seen.

Mary Jane and Venom are certainly an unlikely couple, and this cover art elevates that dynamic to a wacky new level as the two of them officially tie the knot, with Spider-Man's role as MJ's husband getting stolen by one of his classic foes.

The variant cover for All-New Venom #7 references the cover of 1987's The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21, which set the stage for the issue in which Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson celebrated their own wedding. As pleasant of an occasion as that initial wedding was, it's since been undone thanks to the controversial One More Day story, and Mary Jane has finally moved on to bigger things by ditching Spider-Man for Venom. Peter's "Parker luck" has resulted in him being alone, whereas Mary Jane is reliving her wedding with someone that no reader would have expected her to marry.

Of course, it should be clarified that Mary Jane and Venom aren't getting married in the traditional sense, regardless of what this new variant cover may convey. Instead, they've bonded as host and symbiote, with the matrimonial imagery serving as a metaphor for their newfound attachment to one another. For better and for worse, Mary Jane and Venom are stuck together for the time being, which has been hilariously compared to the union that comes from marriage.Spider-Man's former wife has become a mainstay in Venom lore for the time being, as she leaves his story to establish her own.

Mary Jane and Venom's Relationship Takes Center Stage in Their Ongoing Series

Sorry, Spider-Man: Venom Has Mary Jane All to Himself For Now

Ever since the dissolution of Spider-Man and Mary Jane's marriage, fans have held out hope for the two to reunite, even as they've entered separate relationships. However, Mary Jane seems to be remaining with Venom for the time being. The circumstances of their bonding have yet to be fully explored, but it's been made clear that Mary Jane's Venom isn't going anywhere despite criticism, so Spider-Man can kiss his hopes of remarrying her goodbye as she devotes herself to fighting as Venom. Mary Jane is now committed to Venom, leaving Spider-Man alone once again while her unconventional new relationship flourishes.

All-New Venom #7 will be released on June 4th, 2025, and All-New Venom #5 is available now from Marvel Comics!
