Indore: Devi Ahilya Hospital and Research Centre has been symbolically sealed by a joint team of health department and district administration after it was found to be running without permission for a long time.
This came following the instruction of collector Asheesh Singh who received reports that the hospital was being run illegally and treating patients.
The health department has taken a stern stance, deciding to file an FIR against the hospital owner and the responsible medical practitioners who have allegedly been running the establishment without the necessary permissions since 2015. The decision was prompted by a thorough investigation report that exposed the unauthorized operations of the hospital.

As per a recent media report by the Fress Press Journal, IDSP Nodal Officer Dr Amit Malakar clarified that the decision to symbolically seal the hospital was made considering the presence of families belonging to the housekeeping staff residing within the premises. Collector Asheesh Singh, acting on the recommendations of an investigation panel, issued orders to seal the hospital immediately. Singh has also directed the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) to take stringent action against the hospital management and the implicated doctors for operating in violation of the law.
He ordered that the culprits should be treated under the Medical Education Institutions (Control) Act, 1973, and an FIR should be registered at the concerned police station against the hospital owner and involved doctors. Dr Malakar confirmed the initiation of legal proceedings, stating, "We will lodge a complaint against the hospital owner with the police to register an FIR against them under the relevant section on Monday."
However, the authorities needed to make necessary arrangements for the existing patients first. As part of the operation, six patients were swiftly shifted to the Government Cancer Hospital, ensuring their continued care and well-being. Additionally, three patients were discharged from Devi Ahilya Hospital with recommendations to consult alternative medical practitioners. ‘Counselling of admitted patients was challenging as they were not willing to shift from the hospital. We also faced challenges in getting them shifted as the hospital administration was reluctant to return their deposited money,’ Dr Malakar said.
The sealing of Devi Ahilya Hospital symbolically underscores the commitment of the health department and district administration to prioritize public safety and ensure that healthcare facilities adhere to legal norms and standards.
